If I read the map correctly, that is Koylton Township of Tuscola County. Kingston is on the northern boundary of the township. Barb
Thanks I wonder why the homestead records at Ancestry.com shows it as being in Saginaw County? I know of an extended family of Koon's in Shiawasee Co and Lansing area, and could quite likely be the same people iwth the name varied. Might check those two counties for someone researching that family. Marilyn Current
Their was an Edwin Pickilmen teacher at bethlehem lutheran and we lived next door to a Hubert Kuehn years ago. Don't know if any are alive. Janet
Folks I have an old German Bible (in German) (Die Bibel) dated 1909. It has a picture of Martin Luther with his autograph just below. It was published in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at Northwestern Publishing House. It is Leather bound, with embossed gilded cross and floral decoration and gilded pages and has a tassle book marker. The bible is in excellant, near perfect condition, even the tassle book marker, and has a leather carrying case, perhaps the reason it is in such good condition. The Bible is printed entirely in German. The bible also has a pressed 4 leaf clover in it. I haven't found any family genealogy data in it but it is signed Mr. and Mrs. George E. Kuehn January 19, 1909 and a postcard is in the book addressed to George E. Kuehn with a Saginaw, Michigan (city) address. This address looks like it is crossed out and an address in Flushing is penciled in. Also a hand painted picture of a bluebird with notation "For Edwin Pickelman" in pencil. Postcard is dated Sept 9, 1970 or 1971 and is a notice about Local 699 Union meetings. I would like to get this back into the possession of a descendent (with proof) of George E. Kuehn for my cost and postage. Richard G. Boyd New and Used Genealogy Books
To All, The discussion of the Hamilton fire reminds me of another big fire in Saginaw. I know there was a big fire at Morley Bros in the 1930s. Does anyone have any info on this fire? Don McMillen
Kathy - Would appreciate learning more about Creative Memories, the product you are using to assemble family photos. Tom
As part of doing genealogy, I'm making photo albums using Creative Memories products and I'm going through my aunts old photos. She has photos of a big fire on Hamilton Street and I believe the year was 1929. Does anyone know about this? Also, I think there are some photos of a flood that same year. Thanks, Kathy
The "old" courthouse in Saginaw was torn down and built on the same corner. The new building lacks the charm and grace. Guessing, I believe this happened either in the late 70's or early 80's. Hope that helps.
When was the "Old" Saginaw Courthouse on the corner of Court St. and Michigan replaced? Janet from Argyle Janet M. Miller [email protected]
I am forwarding this to the list since this bounced. I am not sure why unless Edgar is subbed to the list under a differenet email address. It is located east of M52 on Fergus road (Four and 1/2 miles north of M57.) There was a one room country school about 1/2 mile east of M52 called the Indiantown School. Our school (Pioneer School District #8) often held spelling bee competitions with them. At one time there was quite a large population of American Indians living in the area. P.S. The area along the river by the Indian Town bridge was a great place for gathering black walnuts and butternuts in the fall. Hi everyone, Does anyone know anything about the following businesses or what would be at 439 Howard now? I have recently aquired a photograph of my Great Grandparents Grocery Store in Saginaw. It is a large brick building with stores on the bottom and living quarters upstairs. John Geigers Groceries, John Geiger's Sample Room and John Geiger's Beer Gardens are on the first floor. As it looks like its on a corner the cross street might be McClosky, the address of the grocery store is 439 Howard Street. Thank you gail finn
My father used to take us fishing at a place called Indian Town Bridge. It was in Saginaw County, south of Saginaw, Michigan. I don't remember the name of the road the bridge was on. I was quite young and in the field where we parked the car I would look for arrow points and I found quite a few. I don't remember a town or any buildings close to the bridge. This was in late 1940s and early 1950s. Richard G. Boyd
Indiantown is in Saginaw County Liz, Hollywood, FL
