    1. [MISAGINA] Memories...
    2. Pat Ellis
    3. 29 JUN 2001 Not only do I enjoy the memories, but perhaps one day something will pop out at me when reading the stories that might pertain to my GGparents and Grand Parents who lived in Saginaw for many years. Regards, Pat Ellis Searching: McGillicuddy, Skimin, Wiggins, Hogans, Jamiesons

    2. MB, I agree withyou. We all need a little break once in a while. I am searching in this area, and as you say this conversation could trigger some ones memory. Charlene BAXMANN STRAUSS

    2. everyone forgets what the list is for which is genealogy. I know I'm going to step on some toes but what I'd like to do is start a Saginaw list just for I disagree - but here's why - I take the list in Digest form so it's very easy to skip or scroll ast things that don't interest me. But there are already so many listservs - that we would lose people coming in and making connections - people talking about where this or that was - or people they recall helps jar recollections and make connections that might not have been made - and that may be really important to a future archive searcher. A year or so ago I asked people about Symons Brothers Grocery and got some valuable information from the seemingly unrelated response it generated. The continuing interest in Bohemia Club gives me hope I will find more that way - already i leanred it burned (which Id id not know) and I was able to drop that as a dead end for current discovery. It's not who married and birthed who, but I think it is real genealogy and important. And I think people do keep it down to a dull road, overall. My 2 cents. Liz

    3. Does anyone remember Crosier and his wife Emma Carlton? They lived in East Saginaw around 1880-1930. They had two girls, Louise and Bessie. If you know of anyone you might have some knowledge of them, please let me know. Thanks, Gene Carleton Dallas, Texas

    2. Janet, Thanks for your thoughts on reminiscing. I have to agree that it does trigger our memories of forgotten times and places and people. I am look forward to telling my children and grandchildren of these stories, and I just know one of them will say, "Gee, Nana, that's just like what we see in the old movies: car hops and car window trays and cruising" Our past is more than just names on a sheet of paper. But, for those people who are not interested in this activity, I wonder what can we do to accommodate them? I can certainly understand how this might be of no interest to some Genealogist.

    2. Elizabeth, Yes, I remember the Strand. My Mother's favorite place was Doyle's Hamburgs next to the bridge and the Saginaw River. They were the messiest things to eat, but, oh, how we loved them. And of course Tony's steak sandwiches were one of our favorites, too. But it was not a thing to eat if it was your first date with a new boyfriend. And, during those hot summer months, we would sometimes drive up to Bay City and eat at White's drive-in. Weren't those just the greatest days? Patricia

    2. To all involved in the 'site discussion' I honestly see both sides of this issue. Yes, the site is intended for genealogical research. I know of no other genealogical site that entertains similar interactions. Confession: I enjoy reading these and have participated on occasion. To the 'purist' it may be troubling. This site has evolved into a genealogical/historical/fond memory page. I see nothing really wrong with that. If, and when, the genealogical requests build up we may want to reconsider a separate site for our chats. Tim Naples, Fl (formerly of Sag)

    3. Hi, my 2 cents worth -- I do not live there and never have - and never will, but my gggreatgrandparents did and my great grandparents left there about 1860 -- BUT I DO ENJOY HEARING (READING) about places, etc and etc - it puts some LIFE into my genealogy. I enjoy reading those little bits - and people are keeping them brief!! 2. This list stays quiet for days and when someone asks where someplace is it comes to life again. Maybe in remembering the past it might trigger a memory of an ancestor long forgotten this is how it relates to genealogy. Janet

    2. Oops. I stand corrected. I don't think Saginaw has one since I've never seen one on S. Michigan either --unless it is not a drive-in. There is only a Rally and a Mac's there near the end of Gratiot. The one I mentioned is an Old Towne Drive In. There is one in Chesaning I think and I know there is a newer one in the Birch Run Mall. 1. [MISAGINA] Do we need so much reminiscing"
    2. Duane Miller
    3. Is this list for reminiscing or genealogy? I know it great for some of you to "remember when" but once a subject starts it doesn't seem to end and everyone forgets what the list is for which is genealogy. I know I'm going to step on some toes but what I'd like to do is start a Saginaw list just for reminiscing. While I really don't have the time or desire to run such a list if I can get it up and running and it's a hit I'd be glad to turn it over to someone else. And before any of you start ragging on me, yes I do have a delete button and know how to use it. 3. Hi Patricia: Our favorite drive-in on the west side was the Strand at the corner of State and Bay. It is long gone now. Remember the frozen custard? Were there any other driveins on the west side? 2. This subject brought back some fond memories: I remember working as a car hop at the A&W Drive-in on Genessee Ave. during the summer of 1955. Hot dogs with sauce were . 50, french fries .25, and a large rootbeer was .15. Children would get their rootbeer free in a baby mug. (Sure wish I had one of those baby mugs for a souvenir) It seems like I was paid .75 an hour and tips, which at that time were usually 15 - 25 cents a car. It was a fun job to see families drive in for their meals, and young couples out on a date, and the girls would be sitting next to their boyfriends. (This was before front bucket seats) And, young men driving their custom cars through the parking lot as they would cruise from A&W to Raymonds to the drive-ins on the West side of town. Does any one remember the names of the drive-in on the West side? Thanks for the memories. Patricia
