    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: JACKSON Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CIB.2ACI/1216.1.1 Message Board Post: See the book "These Men Have Seen Hard Service: The First Michigan Sharpshooters in the Civil War" (Great Lakes Books) by Raymond J. Herek, ISBN: 0814326722 . Company K of that regiment was composed entirely of native Americans, however others served in other companies of that regiment also. There is an "Andrew Jackson" listed in the company K roster. He was aged 27 in 1863 and hailed from Detroit. The regimental roster published in that book has at least one mistake I know of. The regimental rosters for most other units are often available in larger public libraries, and often are posted on the internet. Don't get misled by a misspelt name. The roster for the 1st Mich. S.S. that I consulted is at http://www.michiganinthewar.org/sharpshooters/1mssa.htm There may be other Sharpshooter regiments with Michigan connections. 88,558 of the 92,220 soldiers recorded by the State of Michigan may be researched at: http://www.michiganinthewar.org/rosters.htm . The only way to get the real data on the Andrew Jackson of Co. K would be to request his military and pension records direct from the U.S. government archives. The last I checked, these could cost you $70.
