Do you know anything else about his adoptive Maine family? I am wondering who his grandparents were if you know. I have a Gowell Family Tree and am interested in learning where they might fit in. All of the original Gowells were from Portsmouth, NH and Kittery, Maine as you might know already! I don't know as much about the Gowells that moved to the Kennebec area as I do the ones who moved further inland in York County.
