This means John's father was at the age of 50 and his mother at the age of 37, which is rather aged. According familysearch data, Aart was married with Martje Tannis on 8 december 1891 in Vriesland. His mother was Johanna Cornelia van Zandwijk. Has someone more information about the stated persons?
I have no information about John Van Herwynen, but here is what I found in a book done by Irene Reidsma and the Zeeland Historical Society in 1984 on the cemeteries in Vriesland, Michigan - Old and New. Van Herwynen, Aart, father, Aug 8, 1844 - Feb 6, 1911 son of A. and Johanna C. (Van Zantwyk); No S, R-11 L-11 Van Herwynen, Maatje, wife of Aart, Nov 1, 1856 - Aug 7, 1933 dau of John and Anna (Broekman) Tanis; No S, R-11 L-10 Broersma, John, father, 1851 - 1888; died June 17, 1888 age 36 yrs 10 mo 22da, died of drowning (OCDR); No S, R-11 L-9 Broersma, Maartje, (van Herwynen), mother, 1857 - 1933; No S, R-11 L-10 It looks to me like Maatje (or Maartje) Tanis, daughter of John Tanis and Anna Broekman, was first married to John Broersma, and then after John's death she married Aart Van Herwynen. There are no male children of Aart & Maartje listed in the cemetery, but there are two sons, George and Simon, of John & Maartje buried here. I have indexed the 1900 Federal Census for Zeeland Township and will check that after I send this email. ----- Original Message ----- From: <kees4reactie@xs4all.nl> To: <MIOTTAWA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 11, 2005 8:47 AM Subject: [MIOTTAWA] Parents of John van Herwynen from Vriesland >> Hello All, > > Continuing my search for John van Herwynen, born 1894 in county Ottawa, > and last residence in Vriesland when he died during WWI, I found his > probable parents: > > *Van Herwynen, Aart= Father, 1844-1911 > *Van Herwynen, Maartje Broersma= Mother, 1857-1933 > Both burried on New Vriesland cemetery. > > This means John's father was at the age of 50 and his mother at the age of > 37, which is rather aged. > According familysearch data, Aart was married with Martje Tannis on 8 > december 1891 in Vriesland. Yes, this family is listed in the 1900 Zeeland Township census although I believe the entry is at the bottom of a page and has become somewhat illegible.
