According to the Michigan Place Names Book: Ottawa county: this village in Olive Township was named after its depot on the Chicago & Western Michigan (now Pere Marquette) Railroad; Joel M fellows became its first postmaster on Oct. 11, 1871, the village was platted by James Sawyer in 1872; its post office operated until Dec 31, 1904.
