    3. Barb, Forgot to mention that the Grand Rapids Public Library Main Branch (where genealogy items) are has been temporarily relocated due to renovations. It just opened up 4 days ago. For me, it's about a 30 minute expressway drive from Holland, but I know the area, so 45 minutes for you. Grand Rapids Public Library Main Library Temporary Location Union Station - 1100 Hynes Ave. It's between Hall and Franklin Streets right on the east side of US 131. (not to be confused with US 31 that runs through Holland) Access to the building and parking is only via Hall Street, because Haynes Ave. is one way going North. I suspect there is a map on their website along with hours: http://www.grpl.org Be aware, I have found that staff there is not very friendly. You must ask permission to photocopy ANYTHING. If the book is old, oversized or "fat", the answer will be "No". There are some cases, such as gazette maps, where they have made versions you can photocopy, but they are not available for all years or locations, only the most popular. These versions are very handy to use, just limited. Also, regarding microfilm viewing machines---If using the "photocopying" one you are not allowed to make any hand written notes - it is for photocopying pages ONLY. If you think you'll need to make notes, use the manual viewers first. Good luck. -- Shelly Arnold <[email protected]> Holland, MI - 10 blocks from Herrick Library!!
