Nivison, well known local fisherman who would have been 80 years old Tuesday, was killed instantly at 1:50 p.m. Sunday when he walked into the path of a northbound Pere Marquette freight train at the Lincoln Ave. crossing less than a block from the depot. He resided at 253 East 10th St. Mr. Nivison, who resided in Holland more than 25 years, formerly was a carpenter in Olive Center. He was born June 19, 1865, in Michigan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Nivison. For many years, Mr. Nivison almost daily made his way to the lake. He and his cane pole and bucket were well known to those workers who passed him on Eighth St. early in the morning. Surviving are the widow, Cora B.; two daughters, Mrs. Dick De Waard and Mrs. Henry Bruischat of Holland; three sons, Ray and Earl of Holland and Fred of Findley, Ohio; 20 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. William Cambell of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Kate Fonger of Muskegon. A grandson, Corp. Earl A. Nivison of Holland, was killed in Germany March 17. Mr. and Mrs. Nivison marked their 58th wedding anniversary last April 3. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Dykstra Funeral chapel with Rev. Lambert Olgers of Sixth Reformed church officiating. Burial will be in Olive Center cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. (18 June 1945, unknown paper - most likely either the Holland Sentinel or the Holland City News.
