Her paternal grandparents were Egbert Attes Talsma & Grietje Heemstra. Her maternal grandparents were Jan Ottink & Nellie Liefbroer. "Aunt Norm" was the beloved sister of Gen Howard nee Talsma and the aunt of Brian Lee Howard of Holland, Michigan. Her absence will be heart-felt. Web posted Sunday, October 24, 2004 <http://www.thehollandsentinel.net> Norma Jean Schwander, 82, of Holland, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004 at Holland Hospital. She graduated from Holland High School in 1941 and was a longtime member of Harlem Reformed Church in West Olive. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Harold, in 1985, and two sons, Craig in 1992 and Mark in 2000. Surviving are her children, Robert and Elaine Schwander of Wurstboro, N.Y., Kathy and Tom Van Voorst of Port Sheldon, and Vicki and Gary Rusticus of Port Sheldon; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Genevieve and Howard Lawrence of Holland and Hazel Berkomaps of Holland; brother-in-law Byrn Douma of Holland; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Harlem Reformed Church, 6854 144th Ave., with the Rev. John Nyitray officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Northwood Chapel, Dykstra Funeral Home, 295 Douglas Ave., in Holland. Memorials may be made to Youth for Christ West Ottawa chapter.
