    3. I am a descendant of Bernie W. Syers of Wayland • Allegan county Michigan - he is my great-grandfather. His parents are Charlotte [Cronkright] and George W. Syers of Byron township, Kent County Michigan - and for a time of Jamestown Ottawa county, Michigan. Are there any others out there? Let's exchange info! Lori clough@ejourney.com Obituaries: Grand Rapids Herald Photo-copy • November 2, 1923 issue • Page 3 MRS. CHARLOTTE SYERS Mrs. Charlotte Syers, 74 years old, passed away Thursday afternoon at her home in southwest Byron. She is survived by four sons, Bernie W. of Whalen [Wayland], James M. and Ray B. of Byron and Claude of Morland, and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from the residence Sunday morning at 10:30. ___________________________ Grand Rapids Herald Photo-copy • March 7, 1937 issue • Page 14 [he is a son of George W. and Charlotte Syers] BYRON SUPERVISOR DIES UNEXPECTEDLY BYRON CENTER, March 6 - Funeral services for Ray B. Syers, 56, Byron township supervisor, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Byron Center Methodist church. Private services will be held in the home at noon. Mr. Syers died unexpectedly Saturday morning while at work on his farm. His body was discovered in the haymow by his brother James, who lived with him. Coroner H.C. Wolfe and Sheriff Hugh Blacklock, with Deputy Jarvis Van Koevering, investigated. The coroner said heart attack was the death cause. A bachelor, Mr. Syers was born in Jamestown and, except for 10 years in Oregon, he had lived his entire life in Michigan. He was supervisor from Byron township for seven years, being first elected in 1930. He was a member of the drain committee. Active in the affairs of his community, he was a director of the school district. Mr. Syers, while in Oregon divided his time between prospecting for gold and working for a contracting firm. He heeded Horace Greeley’s advice and went west shortly after completing his education at a Grand Rapids business college. On his return he took up farming. Surviving besides James Syers are two other brothers, Claude of Muskegon Heights and Bernard Wesley of Wayland. ______________________________ Grand Rapids Herald Photo-copy • December 8, 1940 issue • Page 4 [he is a son of George W. and Charlotte Syers] JAMES SYERS, KENT FARMER, SUCCUMBS James Syers, 63, farmer and lifelong resident of Byron township, died Saturday in St. Mary’s hospital. Surviving are two brothers, Birney of Wayland and Claude of Muskegon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Byron Center Methodist church. His body will repose at the Bennett funeral home in Wayland until time of service.
