They don't seem to have returned to the original family home in Ann Arbor, MI and are not buried with the rest of their family there. Following are the names of all (8) children of the family, in case subsequent generations recycled some of them: Parents: Gottlieb BUCHHOLZ (one h later dropped)and wife, Caroline SCHMID (might be a t on the end) emigrated from Prussia 1868/69 to New York>Ann Arbor, MI. Some children emigrated with them and others were born in the US. Herman, Labrecht G. (Labbey)(m.), Bertha Mathilda Charlotte, Albert A., William F., Henry, Charles L., and Frank H.. The missing sons are: Albert A. BUCHOLZ b. 1870 in Prussia. It is unknown if he married. Last whereabouts: 1890/91 was staying in boarding house at 1965 Erie, Toledo, Ohio. Trade: Carpenter and doesn't say where he was working. William F. BUCHOLZ b. 1869 in New York (during or shortly after voyage from Prussia. He was a carpenter by trade, but doesn't say where he was working in Toledo, Ohio in 1890/91 when he was boarding at 1965 Erie. He returned to Ann Arbor, MI, to marry (In 27 Aug 1892) Sarah A. MOORE, b. 1869 in Indiana. (dressmaker daughter of P. MOORE and Sarah MAYNES. The trail is cold after the marriage. The sister of these three men was also staying in Toledo, Ohio, in the same boarding house at 1965 Erie for a period of time. She has no trade or work listed and shortly thereafter returned to Ann Arbor to marry my gr. grandfather, Richard Garibaldi PORTWINE (also a carpenter). Frank H. BUCHOLZ is the third missing brother from this family. He was b. 1 Aug 1875 in Ann Arbor, MI and it is not known if he married. He was a carpenter by trade and in 1890/91 he was living at 556 Church Street, Toledo, Ohio and working as a carpenter for the Wabash R. R., in Toledo. If anyone from Ottawa Co. can shed some light on where they may have gone on to, I'd be delighted to hear from you.

Hi, This came to me instead of to the list .... I have omitted the snail-mail address as I don't like to post such stuff to a mailing list. Bye the way ..... have those folks asking for a cemetery address looked at <http://www.macatawa.org/~brianter/genweb-cem.html> to see if the address is already easily available? AND, have those folks offering to provide addresses looked at the same URL to see if there is missing data they could easily send to the list/page ??? Anna BOUWKAMP SLAGER immigrated to Ferrysburg in 1872. Her parents followed the next year, 1873, with her siblings. Her parents were Hendrik Bronts BOUWKAMP and Kornelske Jacobs. Her siblings were Bron BOUWKAMP, Jacob BOUWKAMP (married Grietje TOREN), and Elizabet BOUWKAMP (married Johannes de GRAFF). I can't find death records for Anna or her parents. Anna and her family moved to Muskegon some time after 1887 but there is no death record in Muskegon County, Ottawa County or the State of Michigan. I don't know WHAT happened to her parents. They apparently vanished!
Hi, Eugene. Not quite sure what you are offering. Can you send by email or should we ask by specific cemetery? Is this a current list with addresses or what? Could you send the list to MIOTTAWA mail list so it will be in archives? Sorry to be so dense -- fairly new to list. L.W. Bon News reached here this morning of the death of Capt. Louis W. Bon at the Michigan Soldiers Home at Grand Rapids. Capt. Bon has been an occupant of the house for a number of years and a sufferer from paralysis. He has been very low for some time and his death was not unexpected. Capt Louis Bon was born in Ohio about 73 years ago. and at the time of the Civil War he was near Manitowoc Wis. He enlisted and served in a Wisconsin regiment during the war. After the war he was engaged in tugging on the river. He was captain of many well known river tugs among them the "McCormick". After his retirement from sailing he was appointed to his last position in government light and fog houses. While in active service he suffered a bad fall on the pier which resulted in paralysis. He entered the Soldier's Home where he has suffered terribly during his last illness. Mrs. Bon was with him during the final moments of his illness and she with five children survive him. Capt. Bon was a member of the Weatherwax Post G.A.R. and always a favorite with his friends who feel his death keenly. The body will be brought here for burial on Thursday afternoon. "
Am researching my husband's DePuit family, and they too arrived in Zeeland in 1847, but I believe settled in Beaver Dam. I would be interested to know if Adriaan DePuit's wife Wilhelmia de Jonge (b. Nov. 1811 in Oudelande, Zeeland) is in the De Jonge family register, as I believe there is a definite connection. Adriaan & Wilhelmia were married in Zeeland, Netherlands before coming to the USA aboard the "Kroonprinz von Hanover" with 3 children.... Michael, Jean/John, and Agatha. Would appreciate any help with either the DEPUIT and or DEJonge family. Kim ([email protected])

Shortly before he died he was in the best of spirits and the end of his long and very active life had not been expected so soon. Mr. De Kraker retired from active business the day before Thanksgiving day last fall. After being in the harness as a meat dealer since just after the Civil War, going to his meat market every day in the year and taking his full share in the work of a busy market, he decided last fall that he had been on the job long enough and disposed of his business to Isaac De Kraker and James J De Koster In February of this year he held a family reunion at his home in celebration of his 85th birthday anniversary. At that time his children and grandchildren gathered in his home and he liberally remembered them all with gifts. Of an affectionate disposition, he was deeply attached to his near relatives, and he took great pleasure in the reunion. In 1861 Mr. De Kraker answered Lincoln's call for volunteers and for four years he served with Company F. 1st Michigan Engineers and Mechanics. He was never away from his company even for a single day during the war and since 1865 his one recreation was to attend the encampments from time to time where he met the old comrades in arms. Almost immediately afther the war he started a meat market in Holland and he was on the job there almost every day until his retirement last November. He is said to hold the record in Michigan for length of service as an active meat market man. Mr. De Kraker is survived by five children: Henry of Grand Rapids. Isaac, Mrs. Wm. (Annie) Karel, Peter and Mrs. James (Mary) De Koster of Holland The funeral will be held on Monday afternoon, June 30th (1924) at 1:30 at the home 62 East 15th Street, and at two o'clock at the 14th Street Christian Reformed church Holland City New
Hello, With many thanks to Waynne Warren, the Cemetery Page at <http://www.macatawa.org/~brianter/genweb-cem.html> has been updated to include addresses for many of the Ottawa County, Michigan cemeteries. There are also some new links to other resources, such as some Obituary Databases. I encourage those folks who have obituaries for their ancestors to post the obit to the GenConnect page at <http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mi/OttawaObits>, placing a link from the obituary to the transcription of the cemetery where the person is buried. Let me know the URL of the Obituary (even if it is NOT located on the Ottawa County GenConnect Board) and I will link the person's name on the Cemetery transcription page to the URL where the obit is located. Please remember that any item posted to <http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mi/OttawaObits> will automatically be posted to this list and may generate the possibility of your receiving new data from another researcher.
