DE JONG, BOUWKAMP, DIJKEMA, SLAGER Bauke de Jong and wife Johanna Bethlehem who came to Michigan in 1888 with six or so children. (I can't open my computerized files right now.) I believe they started in Kent County and soon settled in Forest Grove. Bauke gradually changed his name to Bert DeYoung. Bert's sister, Grace, married Adema and lived in the Byron Center area for many years. Bert and family moved to Antrim County in the 1890s where he lived the remainder of his life. I want information about his life in Forest Grove. Hendrik Bronts Bouwkamp and wife Kornelske Jacobs left Groningen and came to Spring Lake in 1873 with son Bron and daughter Elizabet. Elizabet married DeGraff. Can't find death information for Hendrik or Kornelske. Elizabeth Jakobs Dijkema, widow of Geert Slager and mother of Julle and Jacob Slager, came to Spring Lake in 1873 with the Bouwkamp family. Can't find death information for Elizabeth. Julle Slager's wife, Anje or Anna Bouwkamp, came to Spring Lake in 1872 and were living in Spring Lake Township in 1880. Julle remarried as a widower in 1918 in Muskegon. But I can't find a death record for Anna Bouwkamp Slager.
My brickwall is locating any information on Jacob Talen and Jantje Klooster prior to the immigration from Staphorst, Overijssel, Nederlands in 1882. I do not know if my gggrandmother Aaltje Talen Brandsen had any siblings. Denny deKoekkoek
Posted on: Ottawa Co., Michigan Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mi/Ottawa/698 Surname: De Kraker, Rott, Talsma ------------------------- A million thanks Terri. That is the family I am looking for and I will check the book at Herrick. I have extensive information on Katie Talsma's family if anyone is interested. She is linked through my De Kraker family. I have also exchanged info with a cousin in the NL who has done extensive research on Katie Rott Talsma's ancestors on her father's side. The actual spelling of Katie's surname is Rot and her ancestors were from Zaandam, Noord Holland

Please understand that I sometimes get confused with the numbering system and there may be ERRORS in my following transcription. I apologize for any mistakes and ask that anyone with more accurate information PLEASE post it as a responce to this GenConnect posting. Mrs. Lyons carefully documented all of her sources. There are (xeroxed/scanned) copies of marriage lines dating back to 1687. This book is a masterpiece of research and well worth the price for any descendants of Atte Taekes. Here is the information: page 394 1. Atte Taekes + (married) Lijsbet Jurjans m. 1687 in Bolsward 2. Taeke Attes b: January 1690 in Bolsward, Friesland, Netherlands + Grietje Jurjans m. 1717 in Bolsward 3. Atte Taekes b: December 28, 1729 in Bolsward, Friesland, Netherlands + Thamkjen Rinses m. For a small fee Herrick Library's Genealogy Librarian will make copies for you (the fee is then used toward making materials more accessible to genealogists). We would appreciate any data you could share about these families. Terri Rene DaVar-Howard P.S. for those who do not know the Ottawa County, Michigan connection .... the family of Atte Taekes Talsma lived in Borculo, Michigan.
My Brickwall: EDMUND RAINOUARD b. 1827-29 in LA, taken to France at age l, returned to US so that he is in the Ottawa Co. census, Polkton Twp., 1860 as Raymond and married with children). He was a sailor in France and on the Great Lakes but I can't trace when or how he arrived in MI. Married MARY MALONEY probably pre-1857, maybe in IL. She is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Marne. Also, searching for burial of ANNIE MCCARTY RAINOUARD who died in Muskegon 1908 and is buried in Ottawa Co. someplace. Thanks for any leads. I am researching PEASE who came to Michigan from Maine mid-1850's. Siblings Norton Pease, Hiram Pease, Aaron, Jr. Pease and Harriet "Hattie" (Pease) Jones, wife of David R. Jones, all were in Ottawa/Muskegon counties 1850's-1860s. Hiram, Norton, and Harriet all owned land at various times in Egelston township, Muskegon County. Hiram married Mary Jane Spores of Chester on 16 Apr 1857. Not long after, Hiram and Norton were sent to Jackson State Prison. Norton later returned to Maine. I do not know what happened to Aaron, Jr., Hiram, or Mary Jane (Spores) Pease. Hiram & Mary Jane also appear as Hiram Pees and Mary Jane Spires in the marriage records for Ottawa County. Harriet (Pease) Jones died in 1859, but all efforts to obtain a death record or burial site for her have been unsuccessful. If anyone is researching any of these surnames I would love to hear from you. Sylvia

My brick walls are in locating the descendants of Thomas Seekins & Philo Matthews. He died in Ottawa County in 1874. He and his second wife are buried in Berlin Cemetery. His children, who married Warren and Edward Streeter lived in that area along with a son, Henry Seekins, but I know little else of the family. Am researching the children of Perry PUNCHES (1841-1920) and Mary Mumbers (Mumphier, Monfear) Punches (1841-1917) who came from Ohio and settled in Kent and Ottawa Counties, MI. Daughter Rose married William FALK, and and daughter Ola (Viola) married Frank DORGAN. Two of their daughters married CAHILLs from Ohio (Ella Margaret married Peter CAHILL & Janet Cora married Edward CAHILL), then when Peter Cahill died, Ella married George STRAYER. Janet Cora died young and left a bunch of Cahill children, some of whom went to other families to raise. In the SCHRECKENGAST line, I am researching the descendents of George and Sareptia (JONES) SCHRECKENGAST who lived in Jamestown and Georgetown Townships, Ottawa Co. Any surname SCHRECKENGAST, SCHRECKENGUST, or any spelling even remotely similar (even SecondGhost), is likely to be related to this family.
