    1. [Ottawa Co., Michigan Genealogy] Herman DETERS
    2. Gordon Tans
    3. The Herman DETERS you ask about is my granduncle. He was the fifth of 10 children born in Newaygo County, Michigan, to Jan Hindrik DETERS (b. 1 June 1854, Alte Piccarde, Grafschaft Bentheim, Hanover) and Gese (Grace) PLESCHER (b. 19 June 1858 in Osterwald, Grafschaft Bentheim, Hanover). Jan Hindrik DETERS was the son of Jan Harm DETERS and Janna KAMPS. Gese PLESCHER was the daughter of Hindrik PLESCHER (or PLESSCHER) and Jenne ZWEIRS. Lots of information about the DETERS family, including several more generations of ancestors, is available at the website of Frank Laurens and Judith Kleine-Deters: http://www.gironet.nl/home/lpck/Engels/index.htm Frank also recently published an excellent book entitled "My Name is Deters, Kleine-Deters." It is available from Frank in both Dutch and English. 3. Posted on: Ottawa Co., Michigan Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mi/Ottawa/709 Surname: ------------------------- Marriage record: Fredric A. Hutty, residing Grand Haven, 28 years old, born in Canada, druggist, and Birdie M. Squier, residing Grand Haven, 22 years old, born in Michigan - married 27 October 1886 in Grand Haven, by Theodore J. Knapp, pastor St. John Ch., witnesses: Thos. A. Parish and Chas. K. Esler, both of Grand Haven. [Ottawa County, Michigan, Marriage Records, book 6, page 62] There is a Squier family listed in the 1870 census for the city of Grand Haven: Squier, Heber 48 seafaring b. NY Marenda 44 kpg house b. NY Anna 25 b. NY Susan 23 b. NY Heber 20 b. NY Miranda 3 b. MI Penkwel(?), Mary 19 b. Germany Perhaps the "M." in Birdie's marriage record stands for Miranda. Just a guess. Obituary from the Holland newspaper: "Former Postmaster of Grand Haven Is Dead" - Word was received here today of the death of Frank A. Hutty, aged 58, at Mayo hospital, Rochester, Minn., following an operation for cancer. Mr. Hutty was born in Canada but had lived here for many years. He was postmaster in Grand Haven for 16 years and a prominent Republican politician. He is survived by a widow and four children. Mr. Hutty was one of the campaign managers for Mr. Diekema last fall. 3. Ardis, There is much information available on the Deters anscestry from Frank Laurens at http://www.gironet.nl/home/lpck/Engels/index.htm In addition to his website, he recently published an excellent book on the Deters family entitled "My Name Is Deters, Kleine-Deters." It is available in both Dutch and English. I believe you have correctly identified Jan Herm Deters and Janna Kamps as the ancestral parents, and from the Frank Laurens works you will be able to trace the lineage several generations farther back. There is a robot which sends me an e-mail when a message doesn't go to the intended recipient, I then use the robot's message to identify who has changed e-mail addresses, and the such, then I delete anyone who doesn't have a current/valid e-mail address. It is time consuming, but necessary. Terri Rene

    2. R/S Arnold
    3. Heather, There is for sure at least one DRUMMOND family here in Holland (Ottawa). I am currently living in a house that we bought from a DRUMMOND (it was her maiden name) and my daughter is a good friend with the daughter to the above mentioned DRUMMOND's sister. They are a large Roman Catholic family. There are 3 DRUMMOND's in the current Holland phone book. I know one is a brother to the above sister's. I know of 3 sister's & one brother. I have a good friend that went to school with them and would remember all their names. There were about 8 or 10 altogether and, as I recall, they lived in a huge "landmark" type home here that is now in our historic district. Contact me off list. I will see if they know who their grandparents / G grandparents , etc. were. -- Shelly Arnold <[email protected]> Home Page: <http://www.macatawa.org/~rsarnold/> Family History page: <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rsarnold/>
