    3. Posted on: Ottawa Co., Michigan Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mi/Ottawa/776 Surname: Harris, Walker ------------------------- Greetings! I am also researching this family as a collateral line. However, my information varies in that I have Susannah's maiden name as Walker. Both Cyrus and Susannah filed affidavits for a Civil War pension on behalf of my g-g-grandmother Sarah Cole. In it Susannah states that she had known Sarah since the time of her birth in 1840. Sarah was born in Clark, OH, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Walker. The Walkers later moved to LaGrange, IN, and then to Ottawa, MI. In the marriage records of Clark, OH, it is recorded that Cyrus Harris married Susannah Walker on 1/24/1841. I am wondering if Thomas Walker and Susannah Walker might not be siblings. I would like to compare notes, if possible. Thanks!!!!

Having deciphered a number of handwritten documents, it's easy to mangle a name. I see Jan Danage? as Van Hargen, with no first name listed. This is just a HUGE guess on my part, but may be of interest to you to look into further. The age & the dates are about right for what you are looking. 3. Posted on: Ottawa Co., Michigan Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mi/Ottawa/762 Surname: Tanis, Broekman ------------------------- My info. comes from Florence (Tanis) Van Doeselaar who was the family journalist, I guess you could say. The last year of her life (she passed away September 2000) she sat for many hours recording the family genealogy from memory & pictures. Her daughter Ruth Vanden Bosch put in on Family Tree Maker, and thats how I got it. I have spent many hours on LuAnn DeVries site, and her baptism records confirmed the same info. for those listed. I also use the actual gravestone info. too when I can locate it. I missed one child, Derrick Tanis, born in 1855. This is also not in the baptism records, so maybe the child did not live very long, ?? no clue so far. Same could be true for Maatje Tanis, born 1857. Another puzzle for our hunt :) Am trying to get to Herrick library, planned on going today, then something came up, thanks for the suggestion. If I find other info. I'll post here for you. 3. Posted on: Ottawa Co., Michigan Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mi/Ottawa/761 Surname: Tanis, Broekman ------------------------- Laurie, If you are in the SW Michigan area, suggest you go to Herrick Library in Holland. They have (at least) two genealogies on the Grinwis family which include a lot of excellent info on the Tanis, including taking the Broekman line back to the 1700s. Additionally, suggest checking out LuAnn DeVries' website which includes links to baptismal records of the Dutch Reformed Church in Vriesland where a couple of Jan and Arentje's children were born. Presume the same records are available in hard copy at the library since Mr. Haan, who heads up the genealogy section at Herrick, transcribed them. Can you pls advise where you obtained the birth info for the children you list since you have children listed that I do not have. My list of children came from the baptismal records mentioned above.

Posted on: Ottawa Co., Michigan Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mi/Ottawa/759 Surname: Tanis, Broekman ------------------------- I search the world and come back to my own backyard for information. Can you tell me anything else about Jan Euwits Tanis & Aarentje Broekman? I thought he emigrated in 1949 out of Trexel along with Klass & Kommer Tanis. But the age did not match my info. I have him as born in 1820 in Ouddorp & her as born 10/11/1819. I have no info. on his family in Ouddorp or relatives who may have also emigrated, but I have all the ones that were born here in the USA, including his 3rd child Everett Tanis who I was told was the first born child in Jamestown on November 11, 1851. They had 2 prior childen in 1849 Maria & Annie in 1850 so they must have lived in Grand Rapids and then moved to the Jamestown area. Also, Nieltje 1853, Maatje 1857, Willem May 10, 1858, Hubert December 25, 1859 & Paulus January 7, 1862.
