    2. R/S Arnold
    3. Chris, I agree, this is a wonderful effort. I often see old photo's reprinted in the newspaper of scenes or groups from the past. If the newspaper is created, could they be post? One of the local papers recently showed an old photo of the original Bil-Mar Rest. in Grand Haven. I had never seen it before. If was very interesting. The article interviewed many tourists that used to frequent the place and mentioned lots of names. I did not grow-up in this area but will keep my eyes open. -- Many Blessings to you, Shelly from Holland

    2. Chris, I have some old photo's of the Verhage family that I would love to send to your website. The problem is that they are very old and not the best quality, but you can still make out who they are. Next problem, you would have to walk me through on how to send them through the Internet. Let me know if you'd be interested. Debbie Simmons

    3. Hi all, I have no idea if anyone can help me. I have an oil painting that was my grandfather's, John (Jan) Neymeiyer. It is of two women standing near a lake, painted in 1903. The artist's name looks like Meyerhiem or something close to that. I am thinking it came from West Michigan area, Holland or GR area. Maybe Saugatuck. just wonder if this name is familier to anyone. It is hard to read the initials and the last name on the painting so Meyerhiem may not be exact spelling. Thanks, Barb Fitzmaurice

    3. Chris, Just an added thought. Have you checked out the Willard Library's web page? They have an absolutely wonderful page with all the old photos from the City of Battle Creek, in Calhoun County. They have all the old buildings and people from the town have contributed many wonderful old photos. It would be wonderful if we could do this for Ottawa County. Check it out. Their web site is: http://www2.willard.lib.mi.us/index.htm Peggy

    3. I've spent a few days recently in the Joint Archives (Hope College, Holland) looking through their photograph collection, and it got me to thinking about all the old photographs that still exist, stuffed away in attics and closets, that may some day end up in garage sales, or worse, in the trash. Before that happens, I would encourage everyone to find as many photos as they can and make copies. With the holidays coming up, this is the perfect time to ask around, to find out who has what. Have a local photographer make up a new negative, get laser copies made, scan the images and save them to disk, or at the very least run them through the photocopier. (I'm told one or two passes in the copier won't damage the photo.) Laser copies only cost about $1 per 8 1/2" x 11" sheet, and they look great. Even if you can't identify a person or place in the photo, make a copy. The world's getting smaller all the time, and some day you just might find someone who CAN identify them. The internet can be a big help in this. I'm not aware of any websites devoted to old photographs of Ottawa County (if one exists, please let me know), so I thought I'd start something. I've opened up a Freepages account on Rootsweb. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~penning/ At the moment, it's not much to look at - just a few tombstone photos and some old snapshots of my great-grandfather. But, I'm presently scanning about 200 photos from a relative's collection. With her permission, I'll post some of them on the site. Surnames include: Nederveld, De Vree, Wyngaarden, Hiemenga, Glas, Van Noord, Renzelaar, Kregel, Karsten... I have no idea if this will work, but I'd love to accept photo contributions on anything dealing with Ottawa County: family groups, individuals, schools, sports teams, city views, etc. Copyrights are an issue, so please be certain your submissions are not copyrighted. If interested, contact me at [email protected] Regards, Chris Penning
