Posted on: Ottawa Co., Michigan Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mi/Ottawa/827 Surname: ------------------------- I have some information on the John Kieft family of Grand Haven, Ottawa County. It is posted here: http://www.mindspring.com/~dutchroots/d0000/g0000036.html#I1811 I would like to know more about this family as well. Many of its members are included on a Nederveld reunion picture from 1927 (John's mother was a Nederveld) and I would like to have them all identified. Also, I know someone else who would probably like to contact you about this family, or maybe you're familiar with her already. She lives in Hawaii. Chris Penning
Posted on: Ottawa Co., Michigan Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mi/Ottawa/826 Surname: PLANT ------------------------- You might want to look for information in the Northeast Ottawa District Library located in Coopersville. They have a collection of family histories and a genealogy section in their library. I used to work there.

If no one else can help you, I will be available to do some research in late January or early February; I have small children and work 3 jobs so time is limited - that is why I say I will do the research if no one else can <grin>. Please let me know if you need for me to look for this family in mid January. Happy Hunting, Terri Rene DaVar-Howard
Hello I am a Dutch member of the list Who can do some genealogical research for me in Holland, Ottawa County? I can do some genealogical research in the State Archives of Groningen, The Netherlands, as compensation. I am looking for Wendel (Johannes) de Neu(i) and Jacob (Geerts) Nagel. Wendel (Johannes) de Neu(i), born Ditzumerverlaat (Germany), 29 June 1820, christened Ditzum, 2 July 1820, daughter of Johannes Derks de Neui and Reentje Janssen Bruns. I am descendent of a brother of Johannes Derks de Neui. Wendel married Ditzum (Germany), 30 April 1843 Jacob Geerds Nagel, born 1 April 1819, christened Landschaftspolder (Germany), . 4 April 1819, after his marriage blacksmith in Oostwold (The Netherlands), son of Geert Jakobs Nagel and Epke Rijkwarts Havinga. Children out this marriage: 1 Johannes Nagel, born Oostwold, 3 January 1844; 2 Geert Jakobs Nagel, born Oostwold, 30 mei 1845. They emigrated circa 1847 to the Michigan, USA Wendel and Jacob were 1850 living in Holland, Ottowa County, Michigan. . See Brian & Terri Rene (DaVar) Howard, 1850 Federal Census Holland Township Ottawa County Michigan (ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/mi/ottawa/holland/census/c52202.txt): "50 Nagel Jacob 31 m blacksmith 140 Pillar Wendel 32 f wife de Neu" Jacob had also 140 acres land. That is the only thing I know about their period of living in the States. Their sons Johannes ande Geert are not mentioned in the census. They died maybe before. I have no experience with researching American land records for genealogical purposes. I have red only some time ago Linda Haas Davenport, Land Records: History of and How to Use Them (http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~haas/learningcenter/landinfo.html). Maybe it is possible by researching land records to get (more) information about Wendel and Jacob and their descendents. Maybe there are also other succesfull ways of researching. Who can help me? I would appreciate it very much! Willem

Posted on: Ottawa Co., Michigan Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mi/Ottawa/821 Surname: ------------------------- Greetings! I am the Commander of the Gen. John A. Logan, Camp No. 1, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) located in Grand Rapids. One of our organizations purposes is to locate, record, and evaluate the condition of Civil War memorials - monuments, markers, plaques, etc. Our Camp is responsible for Kent, Ottawa, and Montcalm Counties. I recently took several "road trips" through the area and recorded items in the following communities in Ottawa Cty.: Grand Haven and Holland As part of our purposes and goals in locating and recording these memorials, we are interested in the history of the memorial (who or what group led the way in obtaining the memorial/when was it erected or dedicated/are there any stories or pictures of any ceremnonies). Once we have all the information possible, we will then contact the local authorities to see what work can be done to either clean or restore the memorial to it's original condition and have a re-dedication ceremony for the community. Can you or the web site help? Are there any other communities I may have missed? Respectfully, Bruce B. Butgereit, Commander Gen. John A. Hi Mark, I have an envelope & postcard from WW I addressed to my grandfather, John Neymeiyer, 339th Infantry M.G. (or N.G.) Co., American Expeditionary Forces from Mr. & Mrs. Edward Holksetema, (looks like it is spelled this way.) But could be Hoeksetema. Looks like capital letter E's were used in the writing. The envelope with a postcard inside has the return address of No. 1245 Courtney St., Grand Rapids, Mich. I think the postmark is Dec 4 5 PM 1918. I believe this to be a neighbor of John's family but could be a family member living near. Just not sure. Just wondered if this could be any relation to you? Posted on: Ottawa Co., Michigan Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mi/Ottawa/819 Surname: ------------------------- Hi there... This is Cornelis Flokstra from Rotterdam, The Netherlands. I can tell you that there was a Hilbert Flokstra in our family. Actually there were even two but the I think the one you're talking about is the Hilbert Flokstra born on 11-24-1888 in a place in Holland called Dwingeloo. It's written here that he married AALTJE MIJLOF on 5-8-1914. He died on 3-4-1974, So he was 86 when he past away. He died in ZWOLLE so I guess he lived there and that's answeres your question. Send me an e-mail if you want to know more about our family. Yours Truly, C.J.Flokstra
