    1. [Ottawa Co., Michigan Genealogy] Old photos from Holland, MI
    2. Christopher J Penning
    3. I am trying to gather facts about the early photographers of Holland (and Zeeland), Michigan. One of my goals is to help date photographs that still survive in private family collections. But in order to do this I need some examples to work from. The collection of the Joint Archives has been a big help, as has the collection of my own family members. I am hoping there are some individuals on this list who would be willing to contribute some information about the old photos in their collections. Here are some names of photographers I have gathered so far: Baumgartel, Beernink, Bostwick, Bradley, Bulford, Burgess, Coster, DeVries, DuSaar, Herfst, Higgins, Hopkins, Jones, Keller, Lacey, LaFayette, Lauder, MacDermand, O'Leary, Payne, Tromp (Zeeland), Underhill, VerLee (Zeeland), Versluis, Watkins, Winslow. If anyone has photographs by these people (or others that were in Holland) in their collection, and is willing to share some details about them, please contact me by email, letter, or phone. Thank you, Chris Penning 8372 South Maple Court Zeeland, MI 49464 USA (616) 748-4406 [email protected]

    1. [Ottawa Co., Michigan Genealogy] Ludlow and Hadley families
    2. Deanna
    3. Posted on: Ottawa Co., Michigan Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mi/Ottawa/873 Surname: Ludlow, Hadley, Hadly ------------------------- I am seeking information on Oren Ludlow b. 1853 and Aletha Hadley his wife and their ancestors or descendants. Here is what I know. We first find Oren Ludlow living in Hillsdale County with a Ransom and Mary Bosworth in the 1860 census. He is 7 years old in this census. Is Mary perhaps his mother remarrying after his father's death? This would have been between 1853 and 1860. All that is known about his father (Mr. Ludlow) is French Canadian and mother is from Ohio. 1870 Oren spelled (Orin in this census) is mistakenly shown as a Bosworth and still living with the same family and younger children. 1880 - Oren is living in Ottawa County, Michigan and marries Aletha Hadley also shown as Leathy Almira Headley on another site. Early marriage certificate does not state who the parents were. 1900 -Oren (47) and Aletha (39) living in Olive township, Ottawa County and owns a farm. This census show 3 of the 5 surviving children on it. Iva (15), Danah (3) and Ernest (14). Not sure where the other two sibllings of these kids are. Guess is they are girls and might have already been married before the 1900 census. 1901 His daughter Iva Belle marries Albert Goodrich son of George and Nellie Goodrich in Berrien County on 4/10/1901 and it shows Albert as living in St. Joseph, Berrien County, Michigan when they marry. 1910 - Oren boarding in Ottawa County, has evidently sold farm and Aletha has died. 1920 Assumed that Oren dies before that years census are taken. Oren dies in 1920 and is buried in Grand Junction Cemetery in Van Buren County, Michigan. Buried next to him are his daughter and son in law: Iva Goodrich d. 1941 and Albert Goodrich d. 1971. I am trying to help a friend who has really run into a brick wall in his research.

    3. Posted on: Ottawa Co., Michigan Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mi/Ottawa/872 Surname: Vanderheide ------------------------- There are plenty of related Vanderheide's in Michigan, especially the Northern region where the brothers of Drachten-area (the Netherlands) born Jacob van der Heide (he died and was buried in Saugatuck, MI. but his wife and family later settled in Atwoord/Ellsworth area ) joined the family, all before 1900. The brothers were John, Roelof and Albert, a brother-in-law was Henry Heeres (from Smilde/Ommen). Nephews Meine and Berend van der Heide (from Dedemsvaart/Hardenberg)joined the clan there as well. If you can fit Cornelia into this clan, I probably could help you.

    3. Posted on: Ottawa Co., Michigan Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mi/Ottawa/871 Surname: Velderman, Elderkin ------------------------- I am looking for information of where the grave site of Hendrik (or Hendrick) Velderman could be. He arrived in the Zeeland area around 1848. I am not sure how old he was when he arrived I haven't been able to find any ship's lists with his name on it; however he is listed on the plaque in Zeeland as one of its first settlers. Also information about any of his children or ancestors would be wonderful if anybody has anything. Velderman is my father's name and Elderkin is my mother's. She came from Grand Rapids but I'm not sure where her parents originated from. I do not have her mother's or father's name or place or birth or death, if anyone would have that information that might be the start I need for that part of my search. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.

    2. Wendy Van Hegewald
    3. Posted on: Ottawa Co., Michigan Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mi/Ottawa/865 Surname: Elhart, Dooren, Van Regenmorter ------------------------- Pieter Elhart married Jantje (Jennie) Dooren/Van Regenmorter in Holland, Ottawa, Michigan in 1891 according to FamilySearch.org I descended from Jennie Dooren's first marriage to Jacob Van Regenmorter and so I know a little about the family history. Jacob was killed at work abt. 1890, leaving Jennie to raise their five young children with no government or employer assistance. Jennie then quickly married Pieter Elhart, a widower (I believe) who had three of his own children. Initially, Jennie and Pieter married out of necessity for financial or domestic support, but did have two more children of their own, Alyda and Richard. I don't have much information beyond this and I'd appreciate any additional leads.
