    3. That would be John Goldberg, Jr, who was 6 years old in the 1880 census. Thanks for checking--I appreciate it. I've made a note of the entry. 1. [MIOtt'wa] GOLDBERG family, Grand Haven, Ottawa Co, MI
    2. Elaine Waiters
    3. Hi Everyone, I hope someone out there can help me with this family. They all died in Grand Haven, and they are all buried in Lake Forest Cemetery. John GOLDBERG, born 19 June 1828 in the Netherlands. He died 7 Nov 1903. A history of the FELT family says John was a "celery farmer." The 1880 census says he was a "fruit farmer." Clarissa (Felt) GOLDBERG, John's wife, was born 8 Apr 1844 in Ellington, Chautauqua Co., NY, and died in Grand Haven, 10 Feb 1897. They had at least 3 children: 1. George E. GOLDBERG was born 7 June 1880, and died 18 Aug 1881. 2. William W. GOLDBERG was born about 1883, and drowned in Grand Haven in July 1897, age 14 years. 3. Mary GOLDBERG was born 28 July 1885. I believe she lived to adulthood but do not know who she married. There was also a son John GOLDBERG. He was probably from John Sr's previous marriage. I'm researching Clarissa's line and would love to know more about her, her life, and her children. Thanks for any help or suggestions. Elaine Waiters in CA edwaiters@charter.net

    3. Hi Sandra, Do you live in Ottawa Co? Or has anyone offered to look this up for you? If you aren't somewhere near here to do it yourself (because I know it's always more fun to do it yourself :) I could probably go to the Courthouse to try to find the death record in the index. Then it wouldn't be a problem to find the actual record on film. Info can be written down, but they charge $10.00, if I remember right, for a certified copy of a death record. Let me know, I'm happy to help! 1. Re: [MIOtt'wa] Bertha Bol Voshel (or Voshol) in Grand Haven
    2. Have you tried first the Ottawa Co. Clerk's office to see if there is a death record there? If not, go to the Loutit Library Genealogy Department (in the basement) and tell one of the volunteers what you are looking for. They have newspaper obits. (and lots of other records, old phone books, city directories, etc.) from back then - possibly she is listed in one of them. An obit. might tell you what county she died in, and then you could look at that county's death records. Also, depending on where they lived in Ottawa County, you could also try the genealogy dept. at Herrick Library in Holland - they have an incredible genealogy dept., with lots of newspaper articles on microfilm.....I've found terrific info. there just through the old "social columns" (gossip) that were printed in some of the tinier newspapers between Holland and Grand Haven. 3. This is a multi-part message in MIME format. If you can read this line, your email software does not support this format. --MyFaMiLyMiMeBoUnDaRy02292000 Content-Type: text/plain Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit The Thornapple Kellogg High School & Middleville Public Library has in their possession some fantastic genealogy information. Part of that collection includes several years of the Middleville Sun newspaper. The years available are 1890 to 1914, approximately 22 years. This newspaper was very inclusive and covered a very large area; Middleville, Caledonia, Wayland, Hastings, Irving, Rutland, Leighton, Thornapple, etc. as well as some national news. They are full of interesting advertising for local businesses. For those researching genealogy, they are full of goings on, listing family names and activities. What a neat way to put fun and facts into research instead of just names and dates. The pages are very brittle and cannot be handled for research purposes. Therefore, I have taken on the project of microfilming and preserving these very fragile documents and making the electronic version available to the public. An independent firm, Northern Micrographics, will be scanning them and converting them to searchable text on CD. You will be able to enter a name and it will be located within the document. It is much easier than searching through microfilm. I hope to make the information available on Rootsweb. The cost to process one year of the newspaper is approximately $1500. This includes preserving the papers for storage once they are scanned. Two years, 1896 & 1897 have already been forwarded to Northern Micrographics. They are awaiting direction to proceed. Therefore, I am soliciting donations from people like you or organizations like yours that would appreciate access to this information. If you are interested in supporting this project, please mail your donation to: Thornapple Kellogg Administration Building Middleville Sun Archive Project 10051 Green Lake Road Middleville, MI 49333 Checks can be made out to the Thornapple Kellogg Schools, please reference the project on your check. You can contact me if you have any questions. Please pass this information on to anyone you know who may be interested.
