I am researching a woman named Minnie Robinson (who I suspect was a Deverney). She was born about 1974 in Grand Haven, according to her Muskegon County Obit. She is listed on he 1880 Federal census and the 1884 Michigan census as Minnie Robinson, age 11, oldest daughter of Leonard Robinson age 34 and Martha Robinson (Smith) age 22. I do not think Martha would have been old enough to be her mother. Martha was an Ottawa Indian. Minnie Robinson (DeVernie?) married William Hall in Muskegon on January 14, 1893. Her parents on this certificate are listed as Len Robinson and mother unknown. Minnie then died May 11th, 1907 at the age of 33 in Muskegon. Her mother is listed as Mary DeVernie and her father as Cpt. Robinson on her death certificate. These are the reasons I believe she may be a Deverney. I am posting this here because of he recent Deverney postings. If anyone ever comes across any information on her please let me know. Jenni

Michigan, 30 December 1867. He was graduated at Union College in 1817, studied theology, and went as a missionary of the Presbyterian Church to Michigan in 1821. He established a school for both whites and Indians at Mackinac, and labored successfully for twelve years. His health failing, he was obliged to seek a different employment, and in 1834 purchased with others a tract of land in the Grand River valley, where he founded a settlement and went extensively into the manufacture of lumber. He was one of the first to perceive the future value of the immense pine forests of Michigan, and extended his operations so that in a single year he shipped not less than fifteen million feet of lumber. At his death he left bequests for different benevolent objects, amounting to $120,000. from Appletons Encyclopedia

Duverney. DIED. In this village, on the 21st inst. [21 August 1862], Mr. Pierre C. Duverney. Mr. D. has been intimately connected with the history of our village. He was of French descent, born near Montreal, of Catholic parents, educated in that faith, and designated for the priesthood. But, at the age of 15, or thereabouts, he left the parental roof clandestinely and engaged as a voyageur in the Indian Fur Trade, up Lake Superior, under the English North-West Company, continuing in that employment as a common hand for some seven years, first with Mr. Magotta and afterward with Mr. Davies. He then became a subordinate clerk, over a small outfit, at Lac du Flambeau, first under Erskin's, then Auld, and afterward Truman Warren, the father of Capt. John B. Warren, so well known as a lake captain. Mr. D. continued connected with Mr. Chas. Ermating, the principal Factor of that department, as an employee, till 1821, when he entered the employ of the American Fur Company, as principal clerk, in continuation of the fur trade at Lac du Flambeau, where he remained eight years, passing thus twenty-four years at that lake and the Superior region, and up to 1830. The two following years he spent with Rix Robinson, in this vicinity, in charge of an outfit upon the waters of the Muskegon, one year at the Badeau place, near the present village, and the next year some distance up the Muskegon River. The three years following he resided at Mackinaw, engaging a portion of the time only in the fur trade, till the fall of 1834, when, with his family, he accompanied Rev. Wm. M. Ferry [William Montague Ferry 1796-1867] and family to this place, and here resided till his death, a period of nearly twenty-eight years. As we before stated, he was educated in the Catholic faith, but his connection with the American Fur Company brought him in contact with Protestant influences at the Island of Mackinaw, under the ministerial labors of Rev. Wm. M. Ferry, during his visits there. His bitter animosity to the Protestant faith gradually gave way under the softening, modifying and correcting influences of the gospel, and, in 1826, he united with the Protestant Church at that place. The following year Mrs. D. connected herself with the same church, having their children, four in number, baptized. They remained connected with the Presbyterian Church, in Mackinaw, till 1834. In '36 they both united in the organization of the First Presbyterian Church, at Grand Haven, Mr. D. enjoying in that body the position of ruling elder to the time of his death. His quiet, unpretending manners won the respect of all acquainted with him. His funeral was attended on Friday last by a large concourse of friends Rev. D. M. Cooper officiating in the service. (Grand Haven News, August 27, 1862).

Duverney is well known to many of Muskegon's old inhabitants. He frequently visited Muskegon when he was a snare drummer in the Grand Haven band, and for many seasons he was employed during the berry times at North Muskegon. - from Muskegon Chronicle. Obituary: Drummer Boy Dead. "Chid" Duverney Died this Morning [25 August 1893] at Milwaukee. A telegram received here this afternoon announced the death of "Chid" Duverney, late this forenoon at the Soldiers' Home in Milwaukee. His death removes one of the youngest enlisted soldiers who served on the Federal side in the war of the Rebellion. Duverney was born in this city about 41 years ago. His parents were among the most respected of this community in those pioneer days. They were a God fearing, religious people and among the first parishoners of the old Presbyterian church. "Chid" enlisted in Co. B, 1st Michigan Sharpshooters at the outbreak of the civil war. At the time he was a lad only 11 years old. He became a drummer and served in that capacity for four long years. In the same company as he, were Dick Sanford, Robt. Finch, John Luikens and a number of others from this city. To a friend from Grand Haven visiting him at the Soldiers Home the other day the dying man requested that his remains be laid along the side of his parents in Lake Forest Cemetery in this city. It is not known what arrangements have been made in that direction. (Evening Tribune, Grand Haven, MI, 25 Aug 1893, p.1). Hello I have more than a dozen photos taken at Buchstaber's Studio, M. Chudom, prop., at 3452 Guthrie Street, Indiana Harbor, Indiana. Some are identified and some are not. There are some graduation pictures of Amelia Dorozinski dated Sept 9, 1923. There is a graduation picture dated 1935, but not identified. There is a Helen, Julia and a Cleopatra Dorozinski. I bought these photos at an antique shop in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area. I'd like to get these pictures back to a descendant at my cost ($10.00) See some of these photos at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~confido/dorozinski.html Richard G.
