    1. ([MIONTONA])Memorial Day
    2. Richard Berkheiser
    3. Hi everyone! Sorry to start another thread of messages so close to a Surname Shout Out but with the lists being down the first part of the year it threw my scheduling off. Hope you don't mind... With this being the Memorial Day Weekend, I thought it would it be interesting to post one ancestor we have in our family trees who served in one of the many wars and battles we fought in US History. Obviously it has to be an ancestor from this county. :) Give a brief biography of that person including the unit and war he or she was in, a POW, injuries, plus the usual genealogical stuff. Thanks in advance and have a safe weekend! Rick B Admin

    1. [MIONTONA] HARVEY Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Bessie HARVEY which was taken at the Taylor's Art Gallery Studio in Republic or Champion, MI. The photograph appears to have been done in the 1890's with Bessie likely in her teens at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Bessie and her family: Bessie HARVEY was b. 6 Jan 1869 in Ontonagon Co. MI to Henry HARVEY (b. 1835) and Mary Ann MAY (b. 1841). Bessie was one of 9 children born to this couple including, Jane Ann; Mary Louise; Bessie; Henry; Lydia; William; Emma; Richard; and Susan M. HARVEY, all born between 1862 and 1879. Bessie married Thomas J. RUSSELL (b. 1867) and they had 6 children including, Harry L.; Thomas L.; William; Lillian E.; Earl J.; and Melba RUSSELL, all born between 1888 and 1899. Bessie died 15 Feb 1947 in Los Angeles, CA. Census records provide the following details: 1880 census of Champion, MI: Henry HARVEY, age 45, a Blacksmith, born England, parents born England Mary Ann HARVEY, wife, age 39, Keeping House, born England, parents born England Jane Ann HARVEY, dau, age 18, at Home, born England Mary Louise HARVEY, dau, age 14, at School, born MI Bessie HARVEY, dau, age 11, at School, born MI Henry HARVEY, son, age 10, at School, born MI Lydia HARVEY, dau, age 8, at School, born MI William HARVEY, son, age 6, at School, born MI Emma HARVEY, dau, age 5, born MI Richard HARVEY, son, age 3, born MI Susan M. HARVEY, dau, age 1, born MI Mary RUTTA, neice, age 13, Keeping House, born England, parents born England Elizabeth RUTTA, neice, age 10, at School, born England, parents born England Eliza RUTTA, neice, age 8, at School, born England, parents born England + 3 Boarders + 1 Servant I am hoping to locate someone from Bessie's family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of her family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [MIONTONA] Anne Rule Rule Kneale
    2. Cat Nielsen
    3. Hi all, I am researching Anne Rule, daughter of Richard Rule and Mary Dunn, born ca 1824 in Camborne, Cornwall. In March 1846 she married Richard Rule, son of Oliver Rule. They had the following children: Mary Ann born ca 1849 in Camborne. She married a Prideaux after 1862. She died 14 Sept 1871, Rockland Township, Ontonagon County. Richard B. Rule born ca 1851 in Camborne. He married Selena Craze 7 Nov 1870, Rockland Township. They later moved to Houghton County. Caroline (Carrie) Rule born ca 1852 in Camborne. She married James W. Martin, 24 Dec 1872 in Rockland. William Rule born ca 1856 in Camborne. He died in a mining accident 20 March 1871, most likely one of the mines around Rockland. Richard Rule, the father of these children was "murdered in Mexico" per Anne's obituary. His death must have occurred between 1855 and 1861 when Anne is listed as a Widow in the Camborne census. She and the children emigrated to the US in 1862, settling in Ontonagon County where her brother John M. Rule lived with his wife Harriet Martin. Sometime around 1865 she married Thomas Kneale and they had at least one child: Julia Kneale. Anyone else researching this family? Cat Nielsen

Date: Tue, 27 Oct 2009 08:59:50 -0400 I don't know what kind of records the Ontonagon Public Library has, but, I live a few hundred miles away and called them to ask if they would be willing to look up some genealogical information for me. They were very nice and did look up the info in an old newspaper, photo copied it and mailed it to me. They did charge me a nominal fee....it was very little for their time and effort. 3. I don't know if you've found this or not... Or if it willhelp. I found it several months ago and I have found a couple of people who I think are mine.. They have scanned death certificates from 1897 - 1920. I'm hoping they expand it. Some are hard to read as they have scanned the original documents (and cause of death is listed), but worth a try for anyone searching in Michigan. My famiy, too, was from Ontonagon County. 2. Madelyn Kennedy
    3. Hello All The information that I have for Emelia/AMelia Bussiere, Emelia was my Grandmother. I believe that Emelia/Amelia was born in 1878, Houghton Michigan I have a copy of her marriage certificate to William J Slonaker 13 Feb 1900. Her father was George Bussiere born approximately 1846, probably in French Canada. He married Catherine Belnoit/Belnoit. This is all I have on the above. I have alot of information on Emelia and William's children, all children are deceased. I also know where Emelia and William are buried, and in the spring will get up there again and look over the cemetery sight. I am looking for any information on George and Catherine, if they had additional children, anything I can find. Don Bussiere, I know he lived in Ontonagon, Michigan and am not sure if he is still there. I came across a post in the archives of Ancestry posted back in 1996, he was looking for woman that had been in Ontonagon, from Green Bay, Wisconsin, that may have been me. We may be distantly related, but am not sure. Thank You in advance for your help. I am only able to spend a couple of hours a week on my family search, but will respond to any queries. Thank you again. Madelyn Kennedy
