i have a relative who died in an Oakland County Sanitarium about 1934. Her name was Jessie DUFFY (DUFFEY). Are there any records available for these sanitariums? Pam
The best place to access records such as the ones you are requesting is the state archives. The state archives of Michigan has circulars on line which can help you determine if the records you are seeking are in their possession. First go to: http://www.michigan.gov/hal/0,1607,7-160-17449_18637---,00.html Then on the left side of your screen click on STATE ARCHIVE CIRCULARS. Look for INFIRMARIES, SANATORIA and POOR HOMES. Click on that. It will tell you there what records are available and how to find them, and how to get them once you find them. There is a LONG list of items there that are available for people to use in their research if only they take the time to read and learn. I encourage everyone who may have an interest in genealogy in Michigan Counties to visit the state archive site at: http://www.michigan.gov/hal/0,1607,7-160-17449---,00.html Take a minute and "surf" around and see what resources are available! Hope this helps.
