Hi! You're right, (the Village of) Lake Orion is the big town. But there is also Orion Township! For example, the public library on Joslyn Road is the Orion Township Public Library, instead of Lake Orion Public Library. The county has a great website about each of the communities of Oakland County: http://www.co.oakland.mi.us/communities/ Concetta >>> <ChristieTrapp@aol.com> 4/22/2004 8:40:27 AM >>> Orion and Lake Orion should be one and the same. Way back when, it used to be known as Orion rather than Lake Orion. It is on a lake. I have been reading the local newspapers checking for obits and happenings of the local town folk, and some time in the 1960's I believe it was, they changed the name of the newspaper from Orion Weekly Review to Lake Orion Review. Therefore, I believe the town made the decision to also change its name to reflect the fact that it is on a lake. So, if you are looking in the census records in the past, it was known as Orion or Orion Village or Orion Twp. Then it became Lake Orion.
