It was never known as Orion in their lifetimes. The lake itself has a dam that is right near M 24, just south of town. The lake may have been man-made, or quite possibly enlarged at one time from a natural lake, I don't know. The town may have been named Orion back a 150 years or so ago, but during the 20th century it was Lake Orion. There used to be an amusement park on one of the islands in the lake. Park Island I think. I used to live on another island in the lake, Buena Vista Island, I think...at least that was the name of the street I lived on there.
