    2. Joel and Debbie Holth
    3. Hello listers, Just curious whether anyone has an obituary listing for Edith Elliott, who died on February 24, 1977, supposed in Royal Oak, MI. She was the widow of Charles Elliott, I believe. I would love to have an obit of her if possible. Her birthday was in April of 1883. Any help on this would be most appreciated - thanks!! Happy New Year's Eve. Thanks much! Debbie

    1. [MIOAKLAN] info regarding the 1890 U.S. Federal Census
    2. Rosie C
    3. >From the Family History Network: The Surviving 1890 U.S. Federal Census By Kristin Brandt Beginning genealogy students are taught that the 1890 U.S. Census was destroyed in a 1921 fire. This is true; however, some fragments of that Census remain. Although it may not be much information (3 microfilms), if one of the remaining schedules contained your ancestors name it would be worthwhile for you. Those who have researched Civil War Pensioners probably know that there are also surviving Union Army Veteran Schedules for 1890, which would also be very helpful if your ancestor was listed in the preserved segment. Although much of the 1890 information was lost, it is helpful to have an idea of what survives just in case it might be of use in a future problem. The 1890 Census was taken in the same fashion as all the others, except that there was a separate page for each family entry. This family schedule idea was not used again until 1970. The remains of this Census include select parts of the following: Alabama (Perry County), D.C. (Q, R. S, 13th, 14th, 15th, Corcoran and Riggs Streets, Johnson Ave.), Georgia (Muscogee County), Illinois (McDonough County), Minnesota (Wright County), New Jersey (Hudson County), New York (Westchester and Suffolk Counties), North Carolina (Gaston and Cleveland Counties), Ohio (Hamilton and Clinton Counties), South Dakota (Union County), and Texas (Ellis, Hood, Rusk, Trinity, and Kaufman Counties). The National Archives has prepared an index to all names on the 1890 Census, available in both microfilm and printed forms. If you have an ancestor in one of the above locations, it may very well be worth your while to check the records. The 1890 Union Army veterans schedules include valuable information, though they are incomplete as well. Information recorded for each veteran includes name (also name of widow if deceased), rank, company, regiment, enlistment and discharge dates, length of service, address, and information on any disability. The sad part is, again, that many of these schedules were lost, namely all states alphabetically from A through part of Kentucky. Yes, most of the 1890 Census is gone. What remains, however, will be useful to some. When considering where to look, it is important to remember that if we eliminated every incomplete source from our searches, we would be eliminating many valuable records. Simply keep in mind the value of each record in its place. Even though most of us will never use it, the descendants from some 6,000 people on this Census and many more on the Veteran Schedules will be happy to know that the 1890 Census was not completely destroyed. http://www.familyhistorynetwork.net/ --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? 1. [MIOAKLAN] Watts brothers from England around 1859/1866
    2. Chris Woods
    3. Good morning, I have been asked to trace the lives of two brothers who immigrated from Norfolk, England in 1859 and 1866. This is the first time I have attempted to find any information about immigrants to America and would appreciate any assistance. The first was a GEORGE WATTS, born around 1841 in Norfolk, England and appears to have emmigrated on or after 1859. He married a Julia ?, 1862 lived in GAINES FLINT and died in 1916. Glancing through the LDS 1880 Census there is a George Watts, carpenter, (b. 1839 England) living in Ionia, Ionia, Michigan but I don't know if this is the correct one. REF: Family History Library Film 1254583, NA Film No. T9 0583 Page 129A The second brother who emmigrated in 1866 to join his first brother, was JOSHUA WATTS, born 27th July 1843 also in Norfolk UK. He married a MARGARET NUNN and lived for a time in Northville, Detroit, and later in Midland, Michigan. He died 5th. April 1912 Again from a quick glance on the internet at the LDS 1880 Census, I found a Joshua Watts (b. 1844 England) labourer, living at Lynn, Oakland, Michigan FHL Film 1254599 TA(?9) 0599 p. 194B There is also a MARGARET NUNN or WATTS in the same Census, (b. 1836 England) keeping house - presumably the same address, with the same film references as Joshua Watts. I wonder whether anyone could either confirm these details, or possibly find any more about these two brothers, perhaps even from when they first landed in America. Any additional information would be very much appreciated, thank you, Chris retired mariner, Norfolk UK

    1. [MIOAKLAN] Charles F. GRIFFIN
    2. Hi everyone, Searching for information on Charles F. GRIFFIN, born abt. 1866 in Oakland Co. and lived in Detroit around 1900 and after. He was a resident of Birmingham when he married Lillian REYNOLDS (she was a resident of Southfield) in 1887, but they divorced abt. 1895. Had sons Harry and Raymond REYNOLDS GRIFFIN. Charles may have had a second marriage to an Anna ? Does anyone know where Charles F. GRIFFIN lived during his later years and when and where he died and is buried? Haven't been able to find him on the 1920 or 1930 census, but believe he was living until after 1930. Thank you in advance for any information you can share. I will be very grateful. 2. Hi, I found your reference to Solomon Prentice interesting. I have in my notes a reference to an Oakland County Probate Record that states BENJAMIN, AUGUSTA (my gg grandmother) ADELLA (her sister), Guardianship filed 20 June 1867. Heirs of the great-great-grandfather, Solomon Prentice of Onondaga Co, N.Y. Augusta is over the age of 14 years, Adella is ae 4 years. Guardian James D Benjamin, father. I have never taken the time to pursue this. The male Benjamin line has been extensively researched, so I am assuming that Prentice must be on a wife's line. James Benjamin's wife was Clarinda Kneeland. James Benjamin's mother was Sally Spear and the Spear line is another well documented line. Does this Solomon Prentice connect to yours???? 3. Hi! I'm trying to determine what religion Solomon PRENTICE was. He died Feb. 28, 1922 in Oakland Co., and his obit says that the Rev. F. C. Watters was officiating at his funeral. I'd like to determine what church the Rev. Watters was with. Solomon's wife's funeral, in 1937, was officiated by the Rev. H. B. Wimberly of the First Presbyterian Church, so there's a good chance that Rev. Watters was with the same church, but I'd like to confirm that. Does anyone have any resources that might help me confirm this? Thanks! Mary __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
