    3. Hi Caroline! I had a look in the CD with Swedish emigrants and I think I've found your family: Albertina TÖRNBLOM (with umlaut over the first 'o') - 37 years old from the city of Karlstad in the county (län) of Värmland. She left the port of Göteborg 9 May 1874 for Detroit with her children Anna 4 y.o., Frans 7 y.o., Axel 9 y.o. and Hulda 11 y.o. I do not find find any Adolf Gustaf Nilsson Törnblom. But according to the Declaration of Intent your refer to he seems also to have been know as 'Anders Gustaf' and I do find this man: Anders Gustaf Tornlund (without umlaut) 35 y.o. leaving the county of Värmland (no parish noted) on April 12 1872. Destination: New York. I hope this will help! /Håkan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Caroline Landrum" <caroline_landrum@yahoo.com> To: <MIOAKLAN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 23, 2004 5:30 PM Subject: [MIOAKLAN] Tornblom/Nielsen - Holly, MI > My great-grandfather, Adolphus Gustav Nielson, was born 31 Mar 1835 in Stockholm, Sweden. 2. Caroline Landrum
    3. My great-grandfather, Adolphus Gustav Nielson, was born 31 Mar 1835 in Stockholm, Sweden. He immigrated to Michigan (I don't know by what ship or by what route) and settled in Holly. It has been handed down through the family that he changed his name to Tornblom after he learned his trade of tailoring. I do not know if that was before he immigrated or after. I do know that his wife, Albertina Peterson Tornblom (born 28 Dec 1837 in Sweden) immigrated about a year later with 3-5 of their children. I think one child may have been born/died in crossing. My grandfather, Albert Tornblom was born 24 April 1875 in Holly. The first child born in the US. Other children were born later, some of whom may also have been born in Holly, and probably were. I also have the following Naturalization information that I have not followed up on: 1. Ruth Kennedy, editor, Naturalization Records for Oakland County, Michigan, 1827-1906 (Oakland County. Genealogical Society, 1985.), 5 Jan 2001, Email Correspondence. Mary Hosteny, ChBelinda@cs.com, February 5, 2001, email correspondence. "TORNBLOM, Anders Gustaf filed Declaration of Intent on 17 Apr 1880 (4:152)d SWE The numbers in parentheses are courthouse liber and page number. d = declaration of intent. (never completed naturalization records) Source: NATURALIZATION RECORDS FOR OAKLAND COUNTY, MICHIGAN, 1827-1906. Pub. by the Oakland Co. Gen. Society, Ruth Kennedy, editor, 1985." Can anyone tell me what other information might I obtain from looking at the Declaration of Intent? Does anyone know how I might find out 1) when/where he changed his name? 2) how he came to the US? 3) how he might have ended up in Holly? 4) where in Holly he lived? (I suspect that he may not have owned a house) 5) where his tailoring business might have been? 6) how long he may have lived in Holly? My grandfather moved to Lansing at some point in his life, met his wife there, and that is where my mother was born. At some point Adolphus and Albertina separated, although I do not think that they divorced, due tu Adolphus' alcholism, according to my mother. She remembered their separate visits to her home when she was young. An interesting side story: Their (Alolphus and Albertina) eldest daughter, Hulda Eugenia, married Robert H. 2. Concetta Franco
    3. Linda, Just taking a quick look around, I found a few things for you: 1. There is only 1 Morrill in the 1830 Census of Oakland County: Abner Morrill 000001 00001 http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Emikent/census/1830/oakland.html 2. Samuel and Laura are in Campbell also in 1870 : http://epiphyte.libofmich.lib.mi.us/CensusImages/Roll676/387R.pdf with kids Martha J, Milford E (or Wilford E) , Abraham and Anna 3. Familysearch.org has the extracted marriage record - I would highly advise getting the film since it is 0973980, Record of marriages 1827-1919; index to marriages 1827-1959 Oakland County (Michigan). County Clerk (In other words, a fairly reliable source and it'll give you the rest of the information to order the certificate): SAMUEL TAYLOR Marriages: Spouse: LAURA MORRILL Marriage: 17 APR 1852 , Oakland, Michigan -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Messages: Extracted marriage record for locality listed in the record. The source records are usually arranged chronologically by the marriage date. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Source Information: Batch No.: Dates: Source Call No.: Type: Printout Call No.: Type: M518682 1849 - 1876 0973980 V. Look up AFN: 1PSM-FRK . 5. In the Dibean marriage Index, all I found were these Morrills in Oakland County: ADAMS,LCONARD - ADAMS,MORRILL,MARTHA H MORRILL,OAKLAND,,24 OCT 1835,---,CTY REC VOL 1,---,Ward & Catherine Martin (I would bet the name should be Leonard) COWLES,SYLVESTER DADA COWLES,MORRILL,SARAH - MORRILL,OAKLAND,,21 MAY 1855,---,---,---, Hopefully this will give you a start! 3. Hi List, Part 2, pre-1853 This list is in alphabetical order. These are some of the results of my search of the index of Oakland Probate, LDS Film #927422, compiled by Alice SORRELL for DAR in 1956. These results only cover the time period from June 15, 1822 through October 11, 1852. If I did find your name, then I provide below the reference number. For some of the following, I have also provided an abstract of the probate file. A few of you have so many hits, that it would take me too long to copy the abstracts, and the chances of me making a transcription error would be quite high. These folks may want to consider getting the film themselves or contact me for getting copies. Better yet, I would suggest all of you get a copy of the actual probate file. There are chances that the abstracter of these files missed something or made a mistake. Here goes: AXFORD: reference: 398 and 761. 398: AXFORD, Morgan. Died in testate October 9, 1839. Adm. 2. Tom Krakow
    3. Hi folks, I took a first look at the Probate abstracts today. There were a number of hits, and also quite a few no shows. I received over 100 names to look up, and the index is divided 1832-1852, and then 1852-1868, and I only got through the first index today, and only managed to copy about 1/3 of the entries I found. I'll try to go again tomorrow, and finish through 1852. Then I'll mail the results this weekend. I'll do 1852-1868 next week. 2. I really don't know anything about the family but there was a Barnett's Men Clothing Store in Pontiac for many years. I think it was Fred Barnett. I really know nothing more but this was an old family in Pontiac. Good Hunting.

    1. [MIOAKLAN] Oakland County Probate Abstracts offer
    2. Tom Krakow
    3. .Hi list, I currently have the "Oakland County Probate Abstracts," compiled by the DAR, LDS #0927422 on loan at the Family History Center. The index goes from 1832-1868. I would be glad to do lookups for folks, as long as you keep it simple. For example, it would be easy to check for all Nathan LAWRENCEs in the 1840s. It would not be possible to look for all SMITHS from 1832-1868. Just don't get too greedy. I'll have the film for a month or so. These are abstracts of the actual probate files, but many times relationships are given, as are death dates, and sometimes ages of minor children.
