Thank you to all who took the time to send the Oakland County Clerk and Resource information. It is much appreciated. Robyn
There is an index of marriages that cover 1867-1937. You indicated one of the marriages may have been about or before 1910. These records which document the marriage information have been microfilmed and are available at your local FHL. As it happens I have ordered those films and there are on permanent loan at my local FHL and I can do a lookup of the names for marriages. The index goes through 1937 and I can provide you with the volume and page numbers for all the names that appear in the index to that time. The cutoff for the actual viewing of the marriage record is about 1919, but some of them weren't microfilmed, so I can't promise that if I find the record before 1919 that it was filmed. To make it simpler. The index sets forth the volume/book and page number. If the marriages appear in books A-G and vol. 1-4, I can view the marriage record on the film. If the book and page number falls on volume 5 to the end of the index, then you will have to order, or go to the courthouse as has been suggested to see what it has. The volumes that are A-G are very basic entries. The names of the parties, the date and place of the marriage, the ages of the couple, the witnesses, the minister or justice who performed the marriage and the date it was recorded. Volumes 1-4 contain more information. Besides the above, it also gives the date the license, the date, place and minister's name. The ages of the parties, the place of residence, place of birth of the parties, their parents names, witnesses, occupation of the parties and in the volumes covered by 3-4, it also gives the number of times they have been married previously. If you wish me to do a lookup I will need to know the names of the parties, the dates or time period you think the marriage took place and to make sure I have the correct parties, if you can also supply the names of their parents that would be a big help in case there are two of the same name. I also have available to me the indexes and the films for births and deaths. The births and deaths start 1867 and end the same period as the marriages. So if you think anyone has died or was born, send me their names, the names of the parents, date of death and anything to let me know I have the right person. The records name the parents, so if you are asking me to do a look up on the married ladies, then I need to know the name she was using at the time of her death and who her parents are. For what it is worth. I have tried writing and telephoning. Neither works. The staff evidently does not know they are public servants and our taxes pay their wages. Then again maybe in Michigan that is the way it is supposed to work. I would try the Random Acts of Kindness site. I have some of the Oakland County Genealogical Society cemetery books that I would be glad to do a look up for you. Robyn, If you have the patience to write and it works for you go for it. You may also visit the Oakland County Courthouse web site and order your vital records DIRECTLY from them. It is not cheap, but if you don't want to write and wait, or hire someone, ordering directly from them may be the answer. I would give you the URL but it appears that there is a problem with that website right now. If you would like to try it for yourself go to google.com and type in Oakland County Clerk/Courthouse or something along those lines. That should get you to the site (once it starts to work again) and then you can get the details on ordering directly from them! Hi! I'd suggest that you go to RAOGK.com and ask one of the lookup volunteers to help you. Oakland Co. has **wonderful** volunteers!!! Susanne, Wish you had posted this one day sooner, I was just at the courthouse this morning. The wonderful thing about Oakland County is that you can look without paying. Marriages and deaths pre 1940 are open books. So you can go search for yourself without a fee being imposed. You have to go to vital records on ground floor and ask to do "genealogy" research. You then must fill out a form, and then you can look at the books. So if you are able to come to Oakland County and look its relatively simple. There is a data base on Ancestry of Oakland County records, but I don't really know what all it encompasses. Perhaps someone else on the board might be able to assist you in that department. Hi Mary and listers, I graduated from the same school but it was renamed Dondero H.S. Unfortunately, the Royal Oak School Board is planning to consolidate the two high schools (Dondero & Kimball) in the near future. Dondero will become a middle school...it's a real shame that this is happening! Rosie (1960's graduate) ################## I just "inherited" my aunt's 1920 yearbook from Royal Oak High School, in Royal Oak, MI. It is called "The Oak". If anyone would like a pic of their graduate, would be glad to look it up, scan and send it as an attachment to email. Mary. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Hi List, Results #2 - Oakland County Probate Index: 1852-1868: These are further results of my search of the index of Oakland Probate, LDS Film #927422, compiled by Alice SORRELL for DAR in 1956. These results only cover the time period from 1852 through 1868. If there was no entry for your name in that index, then I state that below. If I did find your name, then I provide the reference number. The film also has abstracts of these probate files. I wish I had time to copy all of the entries, but as you can see from the number of hits, it would take me many hours to copy and type all of the abstracts. This list is in alphabetical order.
