Thank you Rosie for the info you sent. I did some rechecking and it looks like Lawrence died in Clarkston, Oakland Co. MI and not Orion. Also asked my Dad about the church and he said the Stone Baptist Church was in Pontiac. He maybe mistaken about the name however, it has been many years since he first heard the name. Can someone tell me if there is a Clarkston in Oakland? Would it be possible to get an obit from the paper there? Any help would be appreciated and again, Thank you Rosie for your help, it is much appreciated. Rita PeoplePC Online A better way to Internet http://www.peoplepc.com
Hi Rita... I don't think we have an Orion in Oakland County. I don't find a Stone Baptist Church (on the web) in MI. We do have the city of Lake Orion and I found these web pages: First Baptist Church of Lake Orion, http://www.fbclo.org/ BaptistInfo Directory - TEMPLE BAPTIST CHURCH LAKE ORION, MI Search AT&T, TEMPLE BAPTIST CHURCH. They are said to have lived in Orion, Oakland County and according to SSDI they did. Lawrence was supposedly a minister at a Church named Stone Baptist Church. I can't find anything about it so it may not have been in Orion.. Lawrence and Esther had a daughter named Betty June DICKEN(S). I don't know if they had any other children or not. He also had a brother named Loren. Lawrence died March 08, 1994 and Esther died February 18, 1992 both in Orion, Oakland Co. MI. I believe extra copies of the Oakland Press can be obtained by calling their office.
In the book "Oak Hill Cemetery (older sections) 1822-1991 original research and publication by Pontiac Area Historical & Genealogical Society 1992 reprinted by Oakland County Genealogical Society 2002 The following has been brought to my attention by Joan Chelson and I thought others might find this of interest. On page 269 the entry for VAUGHAN, Ella w/o John C. date of death 8-20-1891 age 33 years Lot 9-183. The Oakland County Death Records Vol 1-2 1867-1902 LDS FHL film #0973983 has the death date of 20 September 1893. Interesting is the death date is 9-1893 and the Lot is 9-183. Does anyone have access to the Oakland Gazette and could copy an article for me? I am looking for an article called "Asa Hadsell - E. Todd Family, 1796+, CT, MI". It was in Winter 2001, Vol. 34, Issue 1. Thank you in advance, Terri Mulliken Allen Mesquite, Texas

If someone is doing obit lookups, could you please see if you can find Dwight Roop, who died March 9, 1990, I believe in Rochester? Thank you so much Karin King
The Walter P. Reuther Library at Wayne State University has a substantial collection of union and UAW archives. Although, I suspect that it features the more prominent leaders and organizers. http://www.reuther.wayne.edu/ Mridalton@aol.com wrote: >Dear Sandi, > I put a quick call into my dad who called his union hall in Ohio. Dear Sandi, I put a quick call into my dad who called his union hall in Ohio. The UAW was formed in the 1930's. Was unable to verify is any of the plants were active during the 20's but there are several Ford plants in and around the Cleveland area. Casting plant, an engine plant and a few others. All places where a person who was a macinist might be employed. There is a place called The Solidarity House located in Detroit. They are the keepers of the history of the UAW. Their phone number is 313 926 5000. Hope this helps. Michelle PS It would not have been unusual for an employee to move from one plant to another. As an exsample the Brookpark engine plant near cleveland was staffed with workers from New York who's plant was closing. That was late 1940's--maybe early 50's.
Being president of the Ford Genealogy Club I can answer for FORD but not the other automakers or UAW. Ford will NOT release ANY employee records unless the employee signed a release - they do not care if it is yesterday or 150 years ago. I would not think that the UAW would have employee records or things like that but you could always ask. Good luck with your search! Karen, (and Sandi,) If I'm not mistaken, I think Sandi's best bet would be to: A. Find out what he was doing in 1930 by checking the 1930 census - he could have changed careers in the time between his 1920 census entry and his entry into Pontiac in 1937. and B. Wait out the short period (roughly eight more years) until the 1940 census is released and gives easy confirmation of employment and occupation. Otherwise, I should think that since Sandi knows the year of his death, hunting down an obit would be another option, since they typically give an occupation and occasionally place of employment. Hi Christopher, Yes, I am still doing obit lookups, just a bit back logged. It is tax season and we own a tax service so things are a bit busy here right now. But I haven't forgotten the requests, I have them all here and hope to get to Lansing in the next week or so. I'll add your request to my list of requests!
