    3. Hi Sue! I don't know for sure when these newspapers began, but try: http://www.freep.com/ Detroit Free Press http://www.detnews.com/ Detroit News And these sites: http://wwnet.net/%7Eocphs/index.html Oakland County Pioneer & Historical Society http://www.metronet.lib.mi.us/ROCH/OCGS/ Oakland County Genealogical Society BTW, I have numerous Cloutier relatives in my ancestry. Rosie From: "Sue Stuart" I am researching Albert Cloutier who was murdered in 1919 in Bloomfield Hills. What Newspapers would have carried the story of his death by murder? Where would I find copies of them? Also is there a genealogical society near by? How can I contact them? I appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks, Sue

    1. Obituary Lookups - Simple Request PLEASE
    2. Karen Ansley Krugman
    3. Hi Everyone, As most of you know I offer free obituary lookups for Oakland County. After yesterday I feel I need to restate the guidelines. I did 83 obituary lookups yesterday. Out of that 83, I found 62. Problems: 1. I am getting requests that have no address on them so I find the obits and I have to send another email and ask for address. PLEASE include your mailing address (not email) when requesting obituary lookup. Outside the US will get a digital photograph of the obit. 2. Requests for obits outside of Oakland County. Sorry, not doing Detroit, or Ingham or anything but Oakland. Also keep in mind that I need a full death date. There is NO index, so I can't search full months for an obit. 3. Multiple requests. I would love to but with the volume of requests this is a ONE per PERSON offer. 4. This morning I woke to 4 people emailing me stating they had already gone and gotten the obit themselves or thru another channel. Next time could you tell me BEFORE I spend my TIME and Money getting your obit that you already have it? It would be much appreciated. I don't mean to sound crabby over it, but there were people who didn't get their lookup yesterday because I was busy getting yours, which you already had. 5. The obit lookups are going to be a once a month item, first come first serve. Next trip for obits is June. So please try to keep those things in mind when you request an obit. It will make things easier for everyone.

    3. Sherri, I can try and help with the 1920 but I'll need more information. About how old would she be and is there anything else you can give me about Walter? He may be with her in 1920, since I can't find a Maude by herself. I take it she was born in Michigan as she was Frank Taggetts daughter? Someone else will have to help you with the 1930, though. Concetta >>> "Sherri Willard" <willard43@chartermi.net> 5/10/2004 9:54:37 PM >>> Maude KRAKAU shows up in the 1920 Federal Census. Does anyone have access to that. Could you tell me where she is at and what it says? Also, Walter A KRAKAU shows up in the 1930 Federal Census in Oakland, MI. Could you tell me what it says about him. Is Maude with him in 1930? And he with her in 1920? Maude is Frank M Taggett's daughter from Highland, Oakland County, MI. Thank you for any and all info. 3. Fellow researchers: OK, enough of the discussion re Ancestry. I let it go on for a while because it has some relevance to our work, but there has been a few postings that describe Ancestry's plans and no more is necessary. I do not moderate these lists - whatever a subscriber posts goes directly to the other subscribers - but if this off-topic discussion continues, I will have to start looking at all the posts and that will slow things down for everyone. BTW, I have a gedcom posted on the Rootsweb site and it is not included in the new Ancestry One World Tree. Your friendly neighborhood listowner, Judy

    2. In a message dated 5/5/2004 3:02:35 PM Pacific Standard Time, MIOAKLAN-D-request@rootsweb.com writes: From: "Sherri Willard" willard43@chartermi.net> Subject: Abram Castle TAGGETT & Hannah Crocker DAVIS Does anyone know of a biography or written info on Abram Castle Taggett and Hannah Crocker Davis. They moved from Parma, Monroe County, NY about 1835 to Highland Township, Oakland County, MI. One of the founders of the Methodist Church in Highland. There is a lake, Taggett Lake, that sits on the land he used to own. Looking for Hannah Crocker Davis mothers name. I have most of the info on Abram Taggett. If anyone knows of any written info about them I would be very interested in it. Thank you. Sherri Sherri: Have you tried looking in any of the Oakand County histories? If he came to Oakland county in the time period you are discussing, and you indicate he was a founder of the Methodist Church in Highland, he should be mentioned in it as being one of the first settlers and again under the church organizations. I don't have an exact title but you should be able to do a lookup on the LDS website - familysearch.org to locate it and then order the film or if in book form, send a letter to the library at Salt Lake and request a photocopy of the pages you find him mentioned. You also might want to check the LDS films of the Sesquentennial Pioneer records that were done a few years ago. It is a rather lengthy list of film numbers once you find it and it was filmed in alphabetical order. Perhaps someone submitted for a pioneer certificate on your folks or your family. They had to submit documented proof at the time they sent for it to prove they were in Michigan in the beginning. If they missed the cutoff for a pioneer certificate, there was another certficate issued, but I don't recall the name of that one as I went for the pioneer certificate myself. There was also a filming of records for the Centennial as well that was done 50 years before the latest, so check those films out as well. You might also want to see if one of the early Beer's maps for Michigan might show your family surname as one of the original landowners of Oakland County listed and perhaps show the lake you mentioned. Hope this helps you to locate something on your family. Christie Trapp

    1. O'Dell's.
    2. I'm wondering if anyone on this list has my O'Dell's. They are my brickwall, and have been for over 10 years. The farthest I can get back is Willard O'Dell who was born in 1835 in New York and died on April 13, 1882. He married Mary M. English October 01, 1860 in Lakeville, Oakland Co, Michigan. She was born 1839 in W. Randolph, Vermont, and died December 29, 1899 in Imaly City, Lapeer Co, Michigan. She was the daughter of Jalriel B. English and Abigail Flint. On the death certificate for Willard it states that his father was Bronson O'Dell and the mother was Sarah. Well I've never been able to find a Bronson, and I'm beginning to wonder if it wasn't Ransom O'Dell who was married to a Sarah Benjamin. I'm not having a lot of look finding out information on their children though. It seems that Ransom and Sarah had quite a few kids. I know that Willard had a brother Dennis and a brother Samuel for sure. In the Lapeer County Press Obituary it says that a Samuel Odell came up from Norwalk or Newark, Ohio for his brother Willard's funeral. I haven't been able to get any more information. The date of the paper was April 20, 1882. For Dennis H. O'Dell I know the following: born September 16, 1833 in New York; died November 09, 1908 in Imaly City, Lapeer Co, Michigan; married Omenda; born March 27, 1838 in New York; died March 17, 1913 in Imaly City, Lapeer Co, Michigan. However, I haven't been able to get a death certificate on him, so I think perhaps he either didn't die in Michigan or I wrote the wrong dates for his death. Dennis and Omenda had two children, Fred and Lenora. Lenora married a William Freeman and had a son named William Freeman, Jr. Willard had two son's, Willard Jr, who often went by Will or Willie in the census. I have a death date of January 18, 1919 from a family Bible. His second son whom I am descended from was Frank Elmer O'Dell who was born March 06, 1866. Well if you've read all this, Thank you for reading! Hopefully, someone might recognize a name or two and be able to help me! Sincerely, Grace Waters http://members.aol.com/thewaterskids
