    1. Lockwood, Kingsbury, Sowles, Schooley in Oakland County
    2. Ann Parsons
    3. Missy generously sent me what is in the book "Early Addison township History" Bicentennial 1976 for Kingsbury and Lockwood. There are some errors that I am posting corrections to thinking they may be of interest to other researchers. Kingsbury, Elijah, b. about 1775: m. Laura Lockwood, d. 1862. Ch: Esther, 1857-1923 (m. Charles Sowles) Laura Lockwood did not marry Elijah Kingsbury. She married his grandson Valentine Kingsbury. Esther Kingsbury that married Charles Sowles is daughter of Valentine and Laura. Leonard Kingsbury is son of Elijah and father of Valentine. The birth order of Leonard and Esther (Williams) Kingsbury children is: Alonzo b. 1823 Elias b. abt. 1826 Valentine b. abt. 1828 Lucinda b. abt. 1834 Lorinda b. abt. 1837 Fanny b. abt. 1839 The erroneous information is also in the book "The Addison Album". The source for this appears to be Virginia (Schooley) Roberts who was distantly related to the Kingsbury & Lockwood's through Laura Lockwood's 3rd marriage to Lester V. Sowles. This was also Lester's 3rd or 4th marriage. Virginia (Schooley) Roberts was daughter of Viola (Sowles) Schooley. I do not know who Viola (Sowles) Schooley's parents were. I would appreciate additions or corrections. Ann Alamogordo NM USA

    3. Ann, Below I will transcribe word for word from the book. Hope it helps. Kingsbury, Elijah, b. about 1775: m. Laura Lockwood, d. 1862. Ch: Esther, 1857-1923 (m. Charles Sowles) Kingsbury, Leonard, son of Elijah and Laura Kingsbury, 1794-1879: m. Esther Williams. Ch. Valentine, Elias (d. in Mexican War); Lorinda (m. Lewis Lockwood); Lucinda (m. Cyrus Watkins) ; Fannie (m. R. W Sage); Alonzo. Kingsbury , Alonzo, son of Leonard and Esther (Williams) Kingsbury, 1823-1906; m. Martha Bennett, 1828-1907. Ch: Mary Celesta (m. Elijah kelly) Emma J. d. age 2; Hattie E., Ida May and Frank all died in infancy. Hmmmmm.. You say that Valentines wife was Laura Lockwood, interesting that is also his grandmothers name. Plus his sister married a Lockwood too. If this book is correct then it looks like youve got cousins marrying eachother somewhere. Typical for back then, but it can make it confusing, cant it? 1. Kingsbury in Addison Twp.
    2. Ann Parsons
    3. Hi Missy, When you have time would you look in your book "Early Addison Township History" for one of my toughest mysteries?? Valentine Kingsbury b. about 1828 is son of Leonard and Esther (Williams) Kingsbury. Valentine married Laura Lockwood 7 Mar 1852. By 1860 he has disappeared. Laura is living with the Kingsbury's up near Hosner & Oakwood in Addison Twp. Valentine & Laura had 2 children Fanny b. abt 1855 and Ester b. abt. 1857. Unless Laura was a bigamist [anything is possible] Valentine must have died before 1861. 14 Oct 1861 Laura married John Brooks. Some say Valentine died in New Orleans, some say he went to Illinois. Laura later married Lester Sowles and she died in 1923 as Laura Fulton or Folten. The book I have "The Addison Albun" has much on the Leonard Kingsbury family who were in Addison Twp prior to 1840, but nothing about what happened to Valentine or much about Valentine for that matter. 3. List Members, Due to a misfiling of the Craig Parmenter estate file, Karen and I have cleared up the matter concerning these papers. Let me say that Karen was kind enough to do an obituary lookup at no charge earlier last year. I then hired her to do the Craig Parmenter estate file. Karen is an honest person and I did not mean to imply by my email that she was not. I was simply concerned that perhaps she thought I (as the unknown client) had failed to pay for the papers. 3. Isaac W RICHARDSON immigrated with his family from Ontario, Canada to Pontiac, Michigan about 1853. His wife's name was Mary and they had several children: Austin, Sarah Cristina (married George WOOD), Courtland, Edward, Elias, Esther (married Gilbert COOPER), Isaac M and Solomon. Some of the children moved to Saginaw County. Does anyone know this family? I am trying to find the connection to an Edward Richardson family that settled much of Ontario. Thank you.

    3. Karen, I paid for the file and your time in April 2003 in two checks amounting to $66.00 Unless you have come up with something other than what you sent me, I question why you need to "recoup" your costs? Please don't take this wrong, my apologies to the list owner if this seems inappropriate. I have a 28 page estate packet for a Craig Parmenter. I'd like to recoup my copy cost for it. Oakland County charged me $28 for the 28 pages. If someone is researching this line and wants to take this off my hands I am open to negotiations on it. Otherwise it will just hit the recycling bin. Packet includes funeral bill (Aug.25, 1867), will and other estate papers. For more details drop me an email karen@miprofgenie.com Hope this doesn't make the listowner mad at me, I don't mean any harm. Oakland County Probate would charge $1 a page and you would wait six months or more to get it. If I can help someone side step that I try to! 3. I agree. Certainly worth the watch. I heard about it from watching Oprah on Monday. She and her gal pal, Gail spent an overnight there and were very impressed and left with their eyes much wider over how rough it was, and in wonder how we've progressed and beat the odds of those days in England. Oprah knew the slaves had it rough, but never even thought about the early pioneers and trials..and lower hierarchy held by women. 3. PBS is starting a new series tonight that I thought some persons on this list may have an interest in. The show is called Colonial House and is very similar to the previous series, but differs in the fact that this series is set in 1628 instead of the 1800's. If you want to see an extremely good example of how your ancestors probably lived in the 1600's, then take the time to watch this. The show runs two hours at a shot and is shown I believe in four parts. You can see more details on this series at: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/colonialhouse/ I am in no way affiliated with this organization, but I did enjoy the first and I think anyone doing any research on family history might to see this.
