Hello, Does anyone have access to a copy of the book named "History of Oakland County, Michigan" published by C H Everts & Co in 1877? I am trying to obtain a copy of Albert TERRY and his wife Lucinda Richardson TERRY's picture as well as a photo of their farm in Avon. They are reported to be in the above book. Would it be possible to copy the pictures? Pat patriciapresnell@sbcglobal.net

HI, Not sure of what you are looking for but while you are at the Courthouse you may want to check out the Reseaech Library's genealogy collection. The Library is located inthe basement of Building E which is located just across from the north entrance of the Court House. It is open the same hours are the Courthouse. The Oakland County Genealogical Society maintains a collection at the Troy Public Library located on the Northeast cornor of the I-75 and Big Beaver Rd interchange in the Troy Municiple Complex. If you ancestors lived in the western part of Oakland County the Lyon Township Library in New Hudson also has a good collection for that area. The City of Pontiac Library does have microfilm of most of the Pontiac Press/Oakland Press as well as city directories. The Lake Orion Library on Joselyn Rd in Orion Twp. has a good collection for the northern areas of the County. There are some Roop's living in Lake Orion area. I checked the Lake Orion newspapers for the surname of Roop and got a few hits. It is on-line. Type in: IDIGORION.COM and you will get the newspapers on line. There were 62 hits, but a lot of those hits were for the Boy or Girl Scouts with the word Troop, but you might find some of your early family mentioned in some articles. I did not find anything for Dwight Roop that you asked about, so perhaps he might be in another local paper. Good luck in your search. Christie Trapp
Hi Kay...I suggest visiting the Oakland County Pioneer & Historical Society Museum...here's the web page: http://wwnet.net/%7Eocphs/museum.html Hello Listers: I have the opportunity to visit Oakland County From Aug 1 to Aug 7 to find my roots. From a genealogical standpoint, what are must sees and must visits. I am planning to go to the Oakland County Courthouse, the probate area, to do some research. Does anyone have any suggestions on where else to go for general genealogical research? Thanks in advance for any and all replies. Kay Peterson
Dear list, I have been a subscriber of Ancestry.com for several years. Imagine my suprise when I was searching for an obit for a lister to discover that I get ancestry plus for FREE through the Rochester Hills public library. Along with several other databases! If you are a resident of Rochester or Rochester Hills simply go to the library website rhpl.org go to databases and type in your library card number! Amazing! Regards, Michelle

Would someone be able to check for an obit: Dwight Garth Roop died March 9, 1990 I'm pretty sure in Rochester. If this paper is indexed in some way, would it be possible to find an assumed widow of Dwight who died sometime after 1994. According to the 1994 telephone book, Dwight is living in Rochester, but I know he has passed away by then, so assuming this is a widow. THank you for any help! Karin King
There is a postcard that was used by Essie Gadd on Ebay today - search for item #2258036556 I'm not affiliated with the owner - just thought it was unusual since the postcards normally seen are almost always unused. Concetta
Can anyone tell me the process for researching land transfer records in Oakland County. I know how to do it in Canada, but not in Michigan. I am looking to find information regarding a transfer of a property that was granted in 1835. I know the legal description. What office do I check with. Richard Bray is not listed as owning property on the 1857, 1972 1896, or 1908 Independence Twp maps. However, Sam Curle is on the 1857 map with 40 acres in section 33.
