Would someone please look-up 2 obituaries? James F. Mc Crum, died 3 October 1981, residence Bloomfield, Oakland County. Julia Mc Crum, died 14 October 1971, residence, Independance, Oakland County. Thank You Joan
Patricia, Checked cemetery book from the Oakland County Genealogical Society "Oak Hill Cemetery (older sections) 1822-1991. No Austin, Isaac or Mary. The following was posted Feb 2003 on the Oakland County mailing list. It might be helpful to you. I hope so. Ann Alamogordo NM USA We have had many questions on the list in recent days about the locations of various cemeteries, as well as the existence of transcriptions or indexes for those cemeteries. All Michigan researchers will benefit from bookmarking the following new site hosted by the Library of Michigan: Michigan Cemetery Sources Database http://michigancemeteries.libraryofmichigan.org/default.aspx This searchable database allows you to search across all counties of Michigan for cemeteries, by name or location. The resulting information includes the specific location of the cemetery, and the citation for any transcript or index held by the Library of Michigan for that cemetery. This is the first place to start looking for cemetery information in Michigan. Happy Hunting! Looking for the burial places of Austin and Jessie RICHARDSON who lived in Holly Village according to the 1920 and 1930 censuses. Does anyone know where to locate the information on the cemeteries of those areas? Thank you in advance for any assistance on the matter.
I've posted in the past, several times, that I have available the birth, marriage, death index and films from the FHL and would be willing to do lookups for people. However, at this point in time I will be declining to do any further lookups until after my 95-year-old mother heals from her broken ankle and is once again able to get around on her own in the house will I'm out doing genealogy. She fell last Monday, twice, so we don't know exactly which fall it was that she took that broke her ankle bone. The doctor just changed the temporary cast to a permanent one and says 6-8 weeks in the cast -- it's a bright pink one! -- before she will be all mended. In the meantime I am housebound taking care of her and can't go to the library to do any research. I will post another notice on the list when I am able to resume lookups for people. I am thinking that this will be about the middle of September. So till then, have a great genealogy day and I hope everyone finds all their ancestors! Christie Trapp

Hi Lorraine! I happen to be going to our Library today so I will check the Royal Oak Tribune microfilm for you and let you know. Rose Could someone on the list find me the obituary on John Dudeck? Christie- This facility still exists today in a different form serving troubled youths of both sexes. The original home for girls, established in 1880, was for runaways and other "wayward" girls however this term was defined during those times. The Michigan Historical Society Archives has kept many of these records, as it has with many institutions in Michigan. Access is restricted, and there are different rules for the various records. You could start with the Archive website at http://www.michigan.gov/hal/0,1607,7-160-17449_18637_20992---,00.html Hope that gets you started! --- ChristieTrapp@aol.com wrote: > I'm hoping someone on this list has discovered > someone who was an inmate in > the State Industrial Home for Girls located in > Adrian Twp., Lenawee, MI in the > 1910 time period. > > While checking the 1910 census records for my many > ancestors and collateral > line cousins who lived in Michigan, I came across a > name and the facts fit her > as a single girl; however, the twist is, the census > record says that she is > "married" and has been for a year, yet she is only > 15 years old. I live in the UK and do not have ready access to Michigan records. I'm trying to trace James German, who died in Pontiac December 26, 1900. I believe he immigrated in 1868 from either Wales (probable) or England (where I believe he was born). His death certificate gives minimal information and does not state where he is buried. In the 1900 census he is living as a boarder on Perry Street, 3rd Ward. Since he died in December that year, I'm wondering if he was buried in Pontiac. He had a daughter who lived in Pontiac, but I don't have any indication he lived with her. Prior to that he lived with another daughter in West Bloomfield, but I have not been able to locate any burial information there. The surname is common in Farmington, but James does not seem to have left any records there, although the 1870 census has him living in Farmington. I would be grateful for any pointers. I believe the Waterford Township Library has a copy of the 1877 Oakland Co. book. Possibly the Rochester Library also has one.
I'm hoping someone on this list has discovered someone who was an inmate in the State Industrial Home for Girls located in Adrian Twp., Lenawee, MI in the 1910 time period. While checking the 1910 census records for my many ancestors and collateral line cousins who lived in Michigan, I came across a name and the facts fit her as a single girl; however, the twist is, the census record says that she is "married" and has been for a year, yet she is only 15 years old. Her direct family line came from NJ and settled in Oakland County, but two brothers moved to Shiawassee county. The oldest daughter of one of these brothers was born in 1894. It is this daughter whom I am not finding in the family with the rest of the children, but find one of a similar name, age, and parent facts that matches the 15 year old in the State Industrial Home for Girls that says she is married for 1 year with no children. This is my opinion: I believe she might have been unwed, pregnant, and was perhaps having a problem with the law and/or her parents and that because of this, she was placed under the state care until the baby was born if she was, in fact, pregnant. She might have gone into the "system" stating she was married, but I don't think so because the name in the record matches a girl of the same name and it is not her married name but her maiden name. Therefore, I suspect she really wasn't married. As I said, she was only 15 years old in the census. The only way I see her having the same name as she was born with is that she married a fella with the same surname. I have found that situation when doing other family lines, so I know it is possible. Does anyone know how one would become an inmate in this home for girls in the 1910 time period? Was it through the state correctional system? Or could parents send their kids there who were incorrigible or pregnant? Could a pregnant girl go there on her own in order to avoid embarassment of being unwed and pregnant in her local community? How long would they stay in this home for girls - was it only months, or years, or till a baby was born? Was it a home for unwed mothers? Does it stll exist today? If it does, can someone tell me what the address might be that I might write to get more information? if it does not exist, can some one tell me if the state archives has the records? Christie Trapp
