    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ussportsmouth46 Surnames: Minton, Baker, Hare, Carter, Wilcox, Meyer, Marriott, Rogers, Furnace Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.minton/871/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Much of the information below comes from the March-April 1961 edition of a typewritten newsletter "The Minter Bulletin". I am presenting it here in the hope that I might find people who have more information about the people mentioned below. Jacob Minton (1725-1804) of Morris County, NJ married in 1748 Mary Hare and/or Carter (1729-1806). They had fourteen children including Daniel Minton. The dates of birth and death of Daniel Minton are uncertain. Daniel is said to have served in the Continental Army during the Revolution. If this is true he must have been more than a few years older than his wife Abigail Baker who was born about 1775. Abigail was the oldest child of Morris County resident David Baker (1751-1833) and his wife Phebe Wilcox Baker (1756-1735). Daniel worked for the Customs House in New York City. He had three children including Charles Minton (dates of birth and death uncertain). Charles Minton married Sophia C. Meyer the daughter of John Meyer. Charles Minton apparently lived most of his adult life in New York City but he lived for a time in Savannah, Georgia where he was in the auction business with his uncle Calvin Baker Sr.(1781-1835) under the name Baker & Minton. Calvin Baker was the younger brother of Charles' mother Abigail Baker Minton. The partnership dissolved during the early Eighteen Twenties. Charles probably returned to New York. Calvin Baker Sr. remained in Savannah until his death in 1835. (Calvin Baker Sr. is my third great grandfather.) Charles Minton and Sophia C. Meyer Minton had three children including Charles Armond Minton (1825-1886). Charles Armond Minton married Emily Grace Marriott (1829-1911). Charles was a graduate of Columbia University and became a prominent stockbroker in New York. Charles Armond Minton and Emily Grace Marriott Minton had eight children, the oldest of whom was Charles Telfair Minton (1855-1905) who was born and died in New York. He married a Miss Furnace. (Other sources say his wife was Margaret Elizabeth Rogers.) I would be interested to know the significance of his middle name Telfair. Abigail Baker Minton, the wife of Daniel Minton had another brother named James Baker (1779-1751) who had a son he named Charles Minton Baker (1804-1872). Charles Minton Baker was a first cousin of the first Charles Minton. Charles Minton Baker was born in New York City, was raised in Vermont and became a prominent attorney, judge and legislator in Lake Geneva Wisconsin. His memoirs, letters and personal papers were preserved and published under the title "Charles Minton Baker and the Pioneer Trail." This book has a great deal of information about the Baker family but little if any about his Minton relatives. I would enjoy hearing from anyone who can give me more information about the people mentioned above. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: CZGirl4evr Surnames: Minton, Crowder, Milton, Heydenriech Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.minton/791.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Preston Ewell Minton died in 2004 at the age of 92 in the country of Panama where he had retired with his wife Faye Crowder Minton (Sister of A. Lyle Crowder and Maxine Crowder of Oklahoma). I am trying to find information on Preston's sister Violet Milton (maiden name Minton). I have been told Violet may have been married more than one and had or has 1 child. If you are related to Preston or can help me find someone who is I would appreciate it very much. The only other information I have is that Preston's fathers name was Thos. Pemilton Minton (I guess the Thos. stand for Thomas) and Preston's mother was Amelia Heydenriech. They lived in Jenny Lind, Ark. around 1912. and Preston was born in Sebastain Arkansas. like I mentioned their daughter's name was Violet. After living in Arkansas they may have moved to Oklahoma. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Jennifer Doll Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
