I am not sure whether Mary Bakeman has already told you about this -- so please excuse the repetition if she has. (Mary has been very instrumental in the creation of a Heritage Park memorial to the Ramsey County Poorhouse Cemetery, and she shares that story on the following program.) We are very excited to announce the airing of a MINNESOTA PUBLIC RADIO broadcast of a special documentary about American POORHOUSES. There will be an emphasis on Minnesota poorhouses; but there will also be a context of broader American poorhouse history. While we are not sure what station you need to listen to locally for this Public Radio broadcast, you may be able to find this information for yourselves. But ... The way anyone anywhere can listen to the radio broadcast is to listen on the INTERNET at http://mpr.org Then click on the PROGRAMS link. Then on that page scroll down to find and click on the listing for the MIDDAY program. You will need RealPlayer to hear the broadcast. The Poorhouse Documentary will be during the 2nd hour of the program. There will be a permanent website devoted to this documentary. On that website you will be able to get more information and find additional resources. It will also be possible to listen to this documentary in the future by clicking on a link which will be kept there It would be great if some of you could call in with your questions during the 2nd half hour which will be a Question & Answer session. Those questions will be answered by your local Minnesota researcher, Mary Bakeman, and myself. Linda Crannell aka=The Poorhouse Lady, host of The POORHOUSE STORY -- a clearing house for information about 19th century American poorhouses at http://www.poorhousestory.com We hope you will be able to join us!
