    3. I just learned that my gr gr grandfather and family may have been in the New Ulm area at the time of the 1862 Sioux uprising. Can anyone suggest some on-line sites with history and stories of this event? Thanks. Jim

    3. Hi Jim, Here are some links I found by typing "New Ulm Sioux uprising" (without the quotation marks) into Google. There were 223 returns by Google so you can see I've only sent a mere few. Happy hunting! 3. I would like to thank everyone who responded to my question. I now have enough reading to keep me, and my phone line, busy for several days. ;-) The hard part now comes in trying to find some proof that my family was in fact in the area. I am searching for Samuel COOKE, his wife Mary, and I think four children under the age of six in 1862. I have found them in Columbia Co., WI through 1856 and then in Wabasha Co., MN by 1864. Looks like I need the 1860 Brown Co., MN census as a place to start. Are there any 1860 census indexes available? Again, thanks to everyone.
