    1. [MINNESOTA] RE: [MNRICE] St Patrick's laid to rest

    3. Hello Folks, It's me again with some interesting follow-up to the St. Patrick's Church in Shieldsville being razed. As the walls of the burned out church were being knocked down last week, they found a cornerstone which held a time capsule placed there more than 120 years ago. On Sunday after 10 AM Mass, they opened the time capsule. Inside were three newspapers which were badly crumbling. They are going to seek help in preserving these. There also were coins, including an 1877 quarter- the year the church had been built. Nobody knew the time capsule was there, so they enjoyed the discovery. They await news from the Archdiocese on whether they can rebuild. Interesting. I don't know what that 1877 quarter is worth, but maybe that will help start the rebuilding.. :-) Nancy -----Original Message----- From: Larry & Nancy Baldwin [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, November 15, 2002 1:28 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [MNRICE] St Patrick's laid to rest Those were the headlines in the latest local newspaper about St Patrick's Catholic Church in Shieldsville, MN. You remember the old church that burned this summer after being hit by lightning? The brick shell has stood since the July 30 fire. The insurance company finally decided that it was a danger, and had it torn down. It was sad. The congregation has been meeting across the road in the Community Hall, and wants to rebuild the church. They are waiting for word from the Diocese. Just thought you would like to know. Nancy Baldwin
