Did I tell you Beth that I did get the Death Cert. for Margery Graham. It was the least informative of all the death certificates that I have received. Don't understand it as even her mother's name (Eupehmia) wasn't even there. Just the date and she died of Scarlatina Va, vular heart disease, her age was just listed as 11 and birthplace U.S. and burial in Staples, Minn. St. Paul with attending physician and Reporter J. Ohage, M. D. Don't you find that strange? Why wouldn't her mother or one of her other relatives given information? Makes one wonder if she was so sick that she may never have lived with her. Or could she have been contagious? I don't know! I'm a nurse, and I'm thinking that the medical reference was probably that she had scarlet fever/strep throat. Of course there were no antibiotics, and it sometimes infects the heart which makes it very weak. My husband has an uncle who died from that. Death certificates, in larger cities especially, were sometimes filled out by the hospital, doctor or funeral home, leaving out much info. I have found a new online newspaper record and will check it for your family names. It is concentrated in Winona, Minnesota, in the SE corner of the state, so I don't know whether it will have much information. I would imagine that scarlet fever or scarletina were both diseases that would put you in quarantine along with smallpox, typhoid . . . could be that a whole lot of people were sick and that it was a stranger to this person who gave the information for the death records . . . and later on nobody thought it was necessary to double check and be sure anything was correct. Staples, Minn. St. Paul . . . what does that mean? IN Staples, MN, or St. Paul? hmmm Jeanine ----- Original Message ----- From: <joe.sandy@comcast.net> To: <minnesota@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, November 06, 2006 7:38 PM Subject: Re: [MINNESOTA] EVERGREEN CEMETERY IN STAPLES, MN > Did I tell you Beth that I did get the Death Cert. for Margery Graham. Missouri has put there death certificates on line from 1910 to 1928 FREE . From 1929 to 1955 you have to order them for a $1. I have printout a lot of them and find all kinds of strange things that are not true. Like a son giving the information and him calling the grand father Elmer when it is Abner Or putting the wrong middle initial. Death certificates are not always right but sure are great. Loretta
