    3. thanks for your note. My son recently was remodeling an old farmhouse and found the walls FULL of stuff . . . old magazines, old mail, old bills, old shoes, worn out clothing . . . it appeared that they assumed no matter what you filled the walls with, it would help keep you warm . . . and there was lots of cardboard nailed up underneath the sheetrock that he removed. So apparently at some point, they got enough money to start rocking each room but they didn't insulate, they just nailed it up!!! lots of MN stories for sure . . . I have one online I think, or did have, the story of my dad's bear . . . not sure how to even find it, sent it to some sight just for what I thought was someone to read, and later someone else contacted me about the fun story they had read. I wrote back and asked where they saw it and then they sent me the link!!! What a surprise . . . think I'll check to see if I can find it again!! ----- Original Message ----- From: "T and L Hoper" <hoperfamily@yahoo.com> To: <minnesota@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 17, 2006 6:33 AM Subject: Re: [MINNESOTA] Breezy looking Good Morning Jeanine, No, this was actually the main portion of their house. The kitchen got destroyed by a fallen tree when a nice southwestern summer storm rolled through... LOL. It doesn't look as if there are boards missing, just not very "well built". I heard once news papers came out they would tack it to the wall as a wind barrier and also the homemade quilts were tacked up. In Nov 1996, we purchased a 20+ year old mobile home in my home town. That winter, the curtains would literally sway because of the winter winds. That was just around the windows.... I would hate to have lived where that was a constant. My Great Aunt, who still lives on the homestead, told me a story about my other Great Aunt being bit on the toe by a rat one winter...EW... LOL. It was backed up by my mother and her sister and brother stating it at different times. Heading to work...love to talk about Minnesota :) Lori L Hoper --------------------------------- How low will we go? Check out Yahoo!
