Virginia, I think that what you are looking for may be the Duluth City Directories (not telephone books) for the 1940 time period. You may be able to get a look-up in these by contacting the Duluth Public Library at http://www.duluth.lib.mn.us/. There are a couple of ways there to contact them by e-mail. Carole, the Liebe family had at least three sons. In 1890 the mother, a daughter and the sons lived in Duluth. I have information on two of the sons, but not the other which was Francis. I know there is someone by the name of Liebe in Duluth now and was hoping to figure out if he could possibly be related without calling and asking him. I thought if I could find a Liebe family that was still there in mid 1900's, I would have more information to contact him. You are right, I meant the city directory.
