    3. Captain David L. Wellman lived in Becker County and Otter Tail County, Minnesota. He was a veteran of the Civil War and the originator of the celebrated Wellman Saskatchewan Fife wheat, which at one time sold as high as ten dollars a bushel. You can find several references to him by using the search engine on the web page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnbecker Best regards, Dick Campbell ----- Original Message ----- From: "B. W. 1. [MINNESOTA] Karolina Andersdotter ca.1870-73
    2. Bill & Pat Henke
    3. I am searching for Karolina (Caroline) Andersdotter (born 20 Jan 1842 in Hallerud, Kila) and Lars Fredrik Johannesson Holm (born 29 April 1831 in Sterserudstorp) who left Kila, Sweden on 11 April 1868 with their two daughters, Anna Charlotta Larsdotter, born 14 April 1863 and Julia Maria Larsdotter, born 12 October 1865. They went first to Madison, WI; then to the Mankato, MN area where they lived on a farm for a while until their crops failed due to a grasshopper infestation. At some point, Lars died (we're not sure if this was on the ship, in Madison, or in Mankato). Karolina married (or had a liason with) Andrew Johnson. They had two children: John, (My Grandfather), born 11 March 1871 in or near Mankato and Christine, born 17 October 1873. Before Christine was born, Andrew either died or left the family, and Karolina returned to Madison with John and Christine. She owned a small piece of land on Lake Mendota. She left her two older daughter in Mankato, planning to return for them later. She then married Gilbert Tingom and they eventually moved to a farm outside Madison. The story goes that Gilbert promised to go back to Mankato to get Julia and Anna - but never did. I have searched the Vital Records in Mankato and can't find a trace of the family! John and Christine were baptized in Mankato - at least that is what their confirmation certificates from Bethel Lutheran in Madison say. But I have not been able to find a record of their baptism in any Lutheran Church in Mankato. Any suggestions?

    1. [MINNESOTA] Laure, Long Shot!
    2. B. W. Powell
    3. Hi I'm researching the LAURIE family of McGillivray Township, Middlesex County, Ontario, Canada. Alexander Laurie born abt 1860 married Jenet McIntosh born abt 1867. Both born in Ontario Canada and married February 17, 1889 in McGillivray Twp, Middlesex Co, Ont, Can. They emigrated to Nebraska in the 1890s and had at least two children John and Margaret. The Laurie family settled in the Wayne area of Nebraska along with a McIntosh brother(s) of Jenet. Jenet was my Grandmother's Sister. There are still descendants of these McIntoshes living in the Wayne area of Nebraska. One of these Cousins reported that some relatives from Minnesota attended John Laurie's funeral in Nebraska. I have no idea whether such relatives were descended from John or Margaret. Possibly Margaret married and settled in Minnesota. Other family names in Nebraska were and are McINTOSH, POLLOCK, BECKMANN, MANN. I realize this is not very much information to go on; but, I look forward to any leads that can assist me to further my research. Thanks Bev Powell bwpowell@sympatico.ca Strathroy, Ontario, Canada

    1. [MINNESOTA] Golden Rule?
    2. There have been several lists that I have been on, and usually the "reply" is determined by the listowner. Thus, I do not want to appear too aggressive, but I do not want to break a Golden Rule either. I get in trouble for that! Today, I received several messages and will go through them all. I am also aware of others who are on this list, great researchers in genealogy. When you submit your reply or inquiry, maybe it should be sent to the entire list. I vote for that, anyway! The listowner may have to determine this. There are people from other countries on this list, as well--just waiting for some"bait" to help someone. I am appreciative and love to get your replies and inquiries, but it would go faster and farther, with more help from the entire list. I have seen these miracles on other lists, too, but not as quickly come to an answer as in Minnesota. Sending more snow!! Ardell Sortum Drube

    1. [MINNESOTA] Minnesota Miracle
    2. It seems that from this list, (and I had to go off for a while), one miracle had happened after another. Some I have helped and others have done wonderful things for me. The other day, I put the name Rekow for information. A man named Paul Rekow answered me today. My dad's brother, Iver Sortum married Ruby Rekow in 1935 and they divorces. We loved her, but lost track. She is deceased but it concludes a chapter in my book. Incredible as this seems, Ruby was Paul's Dad's half sister. He had all the history on the family. Could one ask for more? A girl from Minnesota named Karen wrote to me yesterday about her roots in an area of Sor Trondelag Fykle that I did not have a Bygdebok for; however, I forwarded her letter to a contact from that area, and they are related! Karen knew of him and was going to write him a snail mail letter, but my friend in Norway was awed! Thank you MInnesota, Ardell

    1. [MINNESOTA] Search for Anna Birkeland/Anna Lund
    2. Hi, I am new to this list. I was born in St. Paul and lived much of my life in the Twin Cities area and in Willmar. My wife (also a Minnesotan) and I are now living in Clearwater, Florida — and still missing Minnesota. I am looking for information on my paternal grandmother. Per information that I currently have: She was born at farm Birkeland, in Sveio parish, in Hordaland County, Norway on 7 June 1874. Her full name in Norway was Anna Marta Endresdatter. Her parents were Endre Abrahamsen Birkeland and Lisbet Olsdatter Tveitaskog. She emigrated from Norway to America some time in 1892. She initially went to the Willmar area and, soon after, to the Minneapolis area, where she took a job. She married my grandfather, Anton Olaus Peterson, on 16 November 1901 at the Bethlehem Norwegian Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, which was then located on 16th Avenue, South. Her name, as shown on the marriage license and certificate was Annie Lund. Following the marriage, she accompanied my grandfather to their home in Pennock. They later moved to Willmar. During her life in the Willmar area, she was known by several names: Anna/Annie Lund, Anna/Annie Birkeland, and Annie Peterson. I am hoping that someone will be able to provide me with some information on her from Minnesota records (e.g., Minnesota census for 1900, Minneapolis City Directories, Hennepin County records, naturalization records, etc.). I am especially interested in the route and ships she took from Norway to America and the dates of her immigration and naturalization (if she was naturalized). Thanks in advance for whatever information anyone on the list can provide. Bob Peterson

    1. [MINNESOTA] Desert and County
    2. Jane Greenfield
    3. I have an obituary which says my great uncle resided thirteen years in desert and county and twenty five years in the state. I am in England and I am afraid this means very little to me. The facts I have; he lived in Canada, then Minnesota, then California. Does the above statement fit in with these facts? Also, is or was, there a mining company in Minnesota which would keep employment records? What were they mining? The family story goes, that my great uncle was killed in a mining accident. I now know this is not true but as I cannot believe there was no truth in the story at all, I wonder whether it involved another member of his family. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could find out? Thank you in advance. Jane
