    3. Many thanks to those of you who replied to my query RE: Charlie GODDARD. The class enjoyed the articles I took in. It was especially interesting to note that Gary Paulsen was not particularly faithful to the known knowledge about Mr. GODDARD. The book had left us wondering if he did commit suicide in the end but what I read on the website doesn't seem to indicate that. Thanks again, Ruth -- Ruth Barton mrgjb@sover.net Westminster, VT

    1. [MINNESOTA] State Milita
    2. Ray H. Smith
    3. During the Civil War the governor of MN offered the State Militia to President Lincoln. After Pickett's charge at Gettysburg there were four men left in the Regiment. That Regiment was the 135th Infantry. The Regimental motto was "To the Last Man". The Army sent me to Camp Rucker , AL in April of 1953 to join the 135th. Infantry. This Regiment still has Reunions. This year it will be 7-11-13-03 in Mankato, MN. Could I issue a plea for the 135th's Regimental Crest. I lost mine down through the years. None of the advertisers in The American Legion Magazine carry them. Would love to have one for my Legion Cap. Would someone be willing to even shop the Pawn Shops for the Crest for me. Thanking You I am Ray Smith in North Carolina.

    3. Hi Les, Brief History of Pennington County. The earliest known settlers in northwestern Minnesota were the Dakota Sioux who were well established by the late 1600's. By 1770 the Chippewa had become the dominant tribe in a wide area of northern and central Minnesota, including the area which later became Pennington County. In 1863 the Chippewa signed a treaty with the Federal Government which opened up a large tract of land to homesteaders, while reserving some of what would later become Pennington County as Chippewa land. When Polk County was formed in 1858, it included what would later be both Red Lake and Pennington Counties. In 1896 Red Lake County was formed from part of Polk County and in 1910 Pennington County was formed from part of Red Lake County. Thief River Falls is the county seat. <http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnpennin/mnpennin.htm> > > Hi All > > Being a newbie I make a mistakes. > > In 1900 Census I look for Penninton Co. didn't find it.
