There's a Manitou, MN, but it's a bump in the road on the Canadian border about 40-50 miles east of Baudette. A little context always helps when asking about placenames. :) Is there a Michigan connection? Oftentimes people mistakenly assume "MI" is the abbreviation for Minnesota. There is a Manistee, Michigan, that is probably what you are looking for. I see that it's frequently misspelled "Manitee" on the web. -- John Van Essen, Fridley, MN (formerly of Brainerd, MN) <vanes002@umn.edu> Crow Wing Gen & Hist Societies Webmaster: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mncwcghs/

St my web site: Vital records to about 1850 for the following towns: Avon, CT Bridgewater, MA Danbury, CT Granby, CT Hamden, CT and Wethersfield, CT The 1790 census has been added for: Addison County, VT Bennington, County, VT Cheshire County, NH Ulster County, NY As will as parts of several other counties in VT, NH, MA, ME and NY (Plus a lot that was already there) The newest Cemetery listings at my site include all the cemeteries in Avon, CT as well as additional ones for Branford, Farmington, Farifield, Greenwich, New Canaan and others in CT. For MA cemeteries have been added for Kingston, Tolland and Truro. Even with all this new information it is hard to keep up with Jane's web site. Her web site covers the same area as mine, with the addition of RI and more records for NY than I have. Her web site also has records heading out to MI where her family went to after New England and New York. If your family we in New England or New York before heading west please stop by these two web sites and see if they can be of help to you. 3. Priscilla, I found my family by digging around in the Norwegian Digital Archives: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebFront.exe?slag=vis&tekst=meldingar&spraak=e Click on "Categories" at the top to get into the different databases that you can search. You may want to read some of the other pages first though. Depending on when Ole REITAN was born, you might find him in the 1865 Norwegian census. You will definitely want to dig around in the "Emigrants" category. Kathy Priscilla Pollman wrote: > I am beginning a research of Ole REITAN and his wife Danna. The direct link to the search page for the index, which is part of their website, is: http://www.carvercountyhistoricalsociety.org/newspaper/search.php Their website is: http://www.carvercountyhistoricalsociety.org I'm extremely pleased to see their presence online and I encourage everyone with an interest in Carver Co. to support their work. 1. [MINNESOTA] Jensen Family
    2. Deborah Friedrichs
    3. Dear List, I am trying to find my friends father's family. Her father Robert Woodrow Jensen born 1912 in Minnesota died at the end of WW II in Germany. Her father had perhaps seven brothers and sisters and they were raised by their parents until their father died and then placed in an orphanage/foster home. When Robert Jensen was old enough he and a brother moved to New York State. My question is - how would I go about finding the orphanages in 1920 or 1930? I looked in the 1920 Census soundex and only found one Jensen family in an orphanage and do not believe it was his family. There is no soundex for 1930 Census Minnesota. Thank you for any suggestions you may have. Debbie Washington DC

    3. Hi Debbie, No Soundex, but Ancestry indexed the 1930 census records. Not a perfect solution, since there are some errors and omissions, but a pretty helpful option. If you don't have a subscription to Ancestry, and no one on the list can help, try your local library. Many now carry it. 1. [MINNESOTA] NEW Naturalization Records online
    2. Lorine McGinnis Schulze
    3. Hi Everyone I've added the following databases and records to http://NaturalizationRecords.com/ this week: *~*~*~*~*~* MINNESOTA http://naturalizationrecords.com/usa/mn_natrec-a.shtml Index to Naturalization Records (various kinds - Certificates of Arrival, Petitions, Declarations, etc) for the District of Minnesota, 1943 - 1978. This is an index I created for the online NARA records (337 individuals), which are rather tricky to search. My index allows researchers to quickly find a name of interest. Each individual name shows what type of record is online and the date of the record(s). Instructions are provided so that you can easily view digitized images for detailed information. I have also begun extracting details from the images for arrival dates and ship names. Here's an example from the index I created: Petition for Naturalization for Grete Askegaard. 06/27/1955 [arrived NY 21 Sept. 1950 on SS Oslofjord] Again, more detail is available and can be easily accessed by following directions onsite. *~*~*~*~*~* As always, *all* records on NaturalizationRecords.com are FREE to use. Please let each page load completely and scroll down to view the records. Feel free to pass this message on to anyone you think might be interested.
