Hello List, I am new to this list and know very little about MN. I am researching the surname Coy. I am looking for information on the parents of Maggie Coy born in Bruerne Co. in 1875. I tried to find a census records but I can't find this county. Anyone have information on it? Maybe the county changed its name? I am lost at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Can anyone please tell me at what point men who were either enlistees or draftees received their military ID numbers? On what paper(s) does it first appear? The service card? In boot camp? I am trying to understand the process. I have two great uncles (deceased)and I can't find out where they are buried. It appears that sometime after they left the service in WWI that they changed their name but to what I don't know. I thought if I could get a military ID number perhaps I could find them. I already contacted NARA Military Records but they wrote back with an additional medical form to fill out. I also noticed that the typed form they sent with it had a birth year of 2018 typed on it. I sent it all back with a letter and copies of all I had. Ideas? Suggestions? Some MN office to contact? Anyone? TIA Diane __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Hello Hennepin County researchers, I've added a new page to the Hennepin County MN site, which I hope you'll find useful, and will contribute as well. I've added a page called "Genealogy, Lost & Found". A page to list items you might have found relating to Hennepin County families at flea markets, garage sales, Antique stores, estate sales etc? Reunite families with mementos such as books, deeds, letters, bibles, certificates, scrapbooks, and other related family memorabilia. Submit the items which have been found, or post your own lost "Wish lists". Take a look. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnhennep/wanted.htm Also please submit your "Unidentified and Orphaned Photos" that are related to Hennepin County families on http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnhennep/unident.htm Claudia Schuman - Coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnhennep/ http://hennbios.tripod.com/index.htm http://fdlbios.tripod.com/index.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnscott/index.htm

If sks will be visiting the Minnesota Historical Society soon, and wouldn't mind looking up a few death certificates for me I would be willing to pay the costs of the photocopies. The first two Trottos listed below are the parents and most important, but if you don't mind and it isn't to much trouble I could use all of them for my wife's ancestry. I need help/advice on what I can do to find military records for two great uncles. The info is below: Parents: Benedict and Veronica Zaborowski Veronica Deceased 1901 Names: Edumud Alexius Zaborowski inducted MN 1918 sent to Waco TX assigned to Field Artillery Overseas Sept. 1918 Mustered out June 14, 1919 Camp Grant Rank: Private, Army Joseph B. Zaborowski inducted St. Paul MN Aug. 1918 sent to Jefferson Barracks and assigned to 33rd M.G. bn. Later to Camp Meade, MD. Mustered out Jan 27, 1919 at Camp Md. Maryland Rank: Corporal (Army?) The above info was furnished by the Winona MN Historical Society..they have nothing further. Family history whispers that they changed their surname later in life. I last saw them sometime 1948-1950 when I was about 7 or 8. I can't even begin to track them as I don't know what name they chose when they changed. I know I can't find anything on them under the name "Zaborowski". I have checked the 1930 US Census and they don't come up. I thought if they were in the military they would have been issued military ID numbers and that it might be possible to track them under the numbers only. When they entered the service they used their real surname "Zaborowski". What a needle in the haystack... I would be really grateful to hear form anyone else who knows anything about tracking WWI vets. Prayers for the success of this hunt will also be gratefully accetped :)). Thanks Patrick. > Patrick You should be able to search the census records for any area by going to your closest LDS Family History Library and requesting that they order the films for you. You can also search the records yourself with a subscription to Ancestry.com or Heritage Quest online services. Possibly your local public library has a subscription to one or the other of these services as well. There are many many kind people on this list and on others, but it is really better to search the census records yourself. Why? Because then you can look at the neighbors' names for possible connections, in small towns often a family lives near relatives or near families that daughters and sons eventually marry. The handwriting on the census records is difficult to read and you are then relying on another person to transcribe those records. So you can not be certain what they say (even though volunteers on the lists are very careful) unless you view it yourself. That is an important part of genealogy. Getting the information is easier than being certain it is accurate and a correct representation. I prefer to make copies of the census pages to keep with my paper records. I am telling you this because I know you are relatively new to online genealogy and some of this may be new information. I hope it helps. Jo Hogle
