Good afternoon, everyone. :-) A friend of mine, her name is Donna, wants to find her brother. He was probably adopted out at birth. He was born in 1941, probably in Minneapolis. Their mother says that he was stillborn. However, there is no record of the birth or death. Donna has enough information to believe that he was not stillborn and that their grandmother took him away. Donna's sister is terminally ill. She would like to find her brother. If anyone has information and suggestions on where to look, please let her know. Her e-mail address is in the CC: so you can reply directly to her or back to me and I will forward. Thank you. Mainly, I am looking for sibs of my Great Grandmother. In census records she is listed as Lena Pankuk and Lena Averill. She was born Julia Magdalena Schrader. I have at least two sibs for her, but am interested to know why she might be listed as a PANKUK on the Fairbault Co Minnesota [Blue Earth] Birth Register. Martha A. Searching for anyone tracing Maud LATHAM who lived in Minneapolis. She was born in 1873. MFinn90885@aol.com
Hello listers, New to this one. I have been trying to subscribe to the Yellow Medicine Co. list and it does not seem to be working; hence, I am bugging you - ha!! Looking for info on Carl and Mary Michaelson/Mikkelson of Porter, MN, in August 1895 or 1896. Any info surrounding them or the birth of a child, William/Willie Mikkelson/Michaelson. Thanks, Debbie
Listers, My husband and I joke often by saying the phrase "learn the resource". It has to do with missing something really helpful if one had just read the instructions completely, or listened to the entire explanation, or referred to the manual etc. I'm not 100% comfortable with the birth records on microfilm that I'll be teaching seniors in an upcoming genealogy class. I'd like to "learn the resource", but to do so I need your help. I'd like to do one lookup "on the house" for each of these counties; Brown, Dodge, Faribault, Martin, Mower, Steele, Wadena, Waseca, and Washington. The time periods available are on my web site. I'll do the lookups in order of time stamp on the e-mails I receive, and I'll post the names (maintaining some privacy for the requestor) when all the slots are filled. I'll be "learning the resource" next week, so if you would like to participate, please send your request in quickly. I thank you and the seniors in Elk River may thank you too - assuming the class goes well. ;-) Just another limb, Laura search for fallen leaves at http://home.comcast.net/~familytrees/

Hello list, There was a William VanSCHAICK in Winona, MN from about 1910 until he died in 1914. Was this the same William VanSchaick who was the Captain of the ship General Slocum ? The ship Slocum was the scene of a fiery disaster in New York in 1904. Capt. VanSchaick served 3 years in prison before he was paroled. He originally lived in New York. Does anyone do census lookups for Minnesota? Ruth Schneider
Yes, I've heard of it. My grandmother attended the school for a year or two, during her high school years in the early 1900s. I had not heard it was an orphanage. My mother recalls the school being referred to as "Old Holy Angels", and thinks it was located in or near downtown Minneapolis. I read through many 1907-1908 issues of the Irish Standard newspaper, and found they had fairly good coverage of the opening of St. Margaret's Academy. Both schools advertised in the Irish Standard, and I was under them impression both were operated by the Sisters of St. Joseph. There is an active Acadamy of the Holy Angels in Richfield, although I see from their website that they start their history at 1931. Here's their link: http://www.ahastars.org/ They may have an alumni/ae contact who may be able to assist you. The best source might be the Chancery in St. Paul. http://www.archspm.org Mary ----- Original Message ----- From: <WKRUTH@aol.com> To: <MINNESOTA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 11, 2003 10:05 AM Subject: [MINNESOTA] Holy Angels Academy > I am trying to find out if anyone has heard of this place or knows where I > might find records.
