Could S.K.S. tell me if all adoptions in Minnesoto are sealed or if it would be possible to look up or trace some of them. If it is possible where would one look for this information. Thanks. A.T.
I have to say that the Census images at Genealogy.com are MUCH easier to read than the ones at Ancestry. They improved the contrast so in many cases one can actually read some of the dark and dingy corners of the old census pages....and even reading the rest of the page is easier. Yes it costs something, but my time is worth something also. So for me the easier access is worth the extra cost....personal choice I guess. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lois Eckley" <j-lfarms@centurytel.net> To: <MINNESOTA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 01, 2004 11:36 PM Subject: Re: [MINNESOTA] ALBERT SWANSON > Ron, I would never slap your face or call you stupid, I just thought you > would like to know that you can do a name search for the 1910 census on > genealogy.com, and also with heritagequest through the Godfrey library, > which is online and costs $35.00 a year. I have to tend to disagree on being indexed. I do believe it is on genealogy.com I at ancestry.com have no access unless you know exactly where they live. I would love to help if I could. I have recently been given a photo of three ladies. Looks like a mother and two daughters........ The photographers name under the photo is Brandmo with intertwined initials, Montevideo, Minn. Supposed to be a sister of my Swedish grandfather and until now I did not know that any of that family had been (or settled?) in America. Grandfather was Gustaf Adolph PERSSON (1863-1938) and was one of 14 children of Pehr (Per) ANDERSON and Anna Britta Hermonsdt. of Myckleby parish in Goteborgs o. Bohus county. Do any of these names sound familiar to any listers? When the photographer closed down would his plates have been kept? Jean Rotorua, New Zealand.

Wondering if there is SKS on this list that has access to genealogy.com or another source of the 1910 indexed Federal Census that would be so kind as to try to locate a 42 year old Albert Swanson, born Minnesota. He's widowed in the 1920 census so now looking for a wife and children (and how many according to the 1910 census enumeration). He was a chauffer for some Frank in the 1920 census too but have no idea what Albert Swanson would've been doing in 1910. Best bet is that he would be in Hennepin County. Please contact me with questions. Cathie
This is a maybe and a very bad copy. I could not find any other listing for any of the other names. There are many Rusch's in the MN cencus but no Sophia. There is a John J. Jean, Absolutely anything could happen to photo plates when a photographer closes down. They could have been sold off when a place went out of business, or the family might have kept them, or (perish the thought) thrown them out. Montevideo is in Chippewa County. This is the genealogy website for that county: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnchippe/ Looks like it's 27 degrees F up there this morning. ;o) Looks like this is another excellent website for that location: http://home.att.net/~mensch-family/MontevideoMN.htm Kathy in MN Jean Bradley wrote: > I have recently been given a photo of three ladies. Thank you Margit for sending the info about the searchable database for Lakewood Cemetery. On a lark, I checked, and I found several family members buried there! Does anyone know if there are obituaries in Minneapolis as far back as 1892? I have a Virgil O. HUNT who died January 26, 1892 in Minneapolis. I would love it if someone could check on an obituary for him as I live in Seattle. Thank you! Jodi
Jodi, For a list of newspapers on microfilm for different counties, you want the "AskRon" db at the MN History Center: http://collections.mnhs.org/newspapers/arsearch.html There were lots of newspapers around Hennepin County in 1892. Many smaller towns and communities had their own papers. These were some of the biggest in Minneapolis: Minneapolis. STAR (Daily) Minneapolis. STAR (Evening Edition) Minneapolis. STAR AND NEWS Minneapolis. STAR NEWS I might be able to get to the MN History Center later this week. I'm off of work this week and I think they are open for a few hours on Tues and Wednesday. They are definitely closed on Thursday, Jan. 1. Happy New Year, Kathy Reimeroo@aol.com wrote: > Thank you Margit for sending the info about the searchable database for > Lakewood Cemetery. Thanks Margit. As usual you have helped a lot. Thanks. A.T.
Would towns have kept records of land back in the 1880's and early 1900's and if so where would I look or write for them? I am talking about Sleepy Eye and Theif River Falls,Minnesota. Thanks.A.T.
Hi A.T. Try this site: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/PatentSearch/Default.asp? They have land records way back. Read the instructions and less is better then more when searching names. Remember that borders on counties changed a lot back then also. Margit > Would towns have kept records of land back in the 1880's and early 1900's and > if so where would I look or write for them?
