Hello, I think all of us who have been involved in genealogy even for a short time, have thought about this past and in the future. The dates are easy to find it's what that dash between the days represents that's hard. It's why I add narrative to my genealogy search, a little about peoples personal lives, their height, weight color of eyes, occupation(s), address' and what ever comes up. I even have receipts and income statements. I want those who come after me and mine to know us even just a little. I have a great uncle that I found last year, never knew he existed before and now all I have is names and dates. I really regreat that and I especially regreat that I did not know some of my ancesters. Adj Dennis --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Hi all, Do you all have any idea how true this below is? I have stood before tombstones of my ancestor's and others and I have viewed in my mind what their life was like and what they were like and their families and how much I wished I could talk and walk with them for a day. I have taken pictures of tombstones for family members, of those who lie there in that grave, from around the world, and sent to them. I wonder what their life was like with every elder I meet along the way? I visualize it... Was it good? Did they wish they would have gone back across the sea to home again? They may have not known that we would all exist one day, but they knew someone would and that we would all be a part of them and continue on. What most do not realize is that these ancestors from 3/4/5/6/7/8/9 generations before us, their blood is flowing in our veins and in our children. There is never a relationship so far apart in life, that it does not connect and life is once again brought to those who came before us all. It was never so apparent as when I and our oldest daughter visited Norway last May. We saw immediately which side of the family that Sonja represented in Norway when we were lucky enough to meet the Skulbørstad side of the family. Many who have seen the picture of the four together have commented about it since we have been home. I could go on about experiences in life, but will quit. Thanks Margit. Lovely poem. Share the sentiments.
Your tombstone stands among the rest; Neglected and alone. The name and date are chiseled out On polished, marbled stone. It reaches out to all who care It is too late to mourn. You did not know that I exist You died and I was born. Yet each of us are cells of you In flesh, in blood, in bone. Our blood contracts and beats a pulse Entirely not our own. Dear Ancestor, the place you filled One hundred years ago Spreads out among the ones you left Who would have loved you so. I wonder if you lived and loved, I wonder if you knew That someday I would find this spot, And come to visit you. Author Unknown

Of course procedures vary from state to state so this may not be applicable . . . In California, vital stats are initially recorded at the county, & in due time the county forwards them to the State Dept. of Vital Stats in Sacramento. Now, when an adoption is finalized, it appears the court orders the County recorder to issue a new BC, & seal the original. Where does that leave us ?? In some instances reported in the past on NorCal & SoCal lists, researchers have found the originals at the state level. Why or how this happens, I have no clue. If we must speculate, do some of the court orders also refer to the state records, while some other orders do not? Or do none of the orders specify the state, but some county staff forward it to Sacramento on their own initiative? In any case, if there are both local & state level records, I'd check both Phil Van Camp pvc@vancamp.org . ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert Tucker" <rtucker14@cfl.rr.com> To: <MINNESOTA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 02, 2004 5:49 PM Subject: [MINNESOTA] Adoption > Could S.K.S. tell me if all adoptions in Minnesoto are sealed or if it would be possible to look up or trace some of them. Hi All I have a query that perhaps someone could help with. I am based in thre UK and researching the Brown family who lived in London in the 1890's. A son of the family, Cuthbert William Brown, married a Constance M., Surname Unknown. Both are born in the UK as I can find them in the 1901 UK census. I can't find a marraige in the UK, and according to the 1901 census they had a son called Godfrey V. Brown, born in Minneapolis in about 1898. Pehaps they met and married in Minneapolis, had a child then came back to the UK in time for the 1901 census. Can anyone suggest a way I can investigate this? The 1900 census doesn't seem to have an index on ancestry. Yours David Hodgson-Brown
The U.S. required arriving immigrant ships to file a passenger list on arrival. I do not know if there were any departure lists filed, I'd tend to doubt it. Perhaps the U.K. filed passenger lists ?? The problem with the U.S. lists are 1.) an incredible volume of data 2.) they were hand written & can be very difficult to decipher 3.) they were retained separately for each port (of many). 4.) to the best of my knowledge (imperfect) they have not been indexed. Prior to personal computers many of them (but a small percentage) were transcribed & printed in books. Since the advent of P.C.'s, more are being transcribed by volunteers into digital format. You might wish to search the web for something on the order of "... immigrant ships transcribers". Or you may find them at www.cyndislist.com , an excellent source for just about anything genealogical Phil Van Camp pvc@vancamp.org . ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Hodgson-Brown" <dave@hodgson-brown.co.uk> To: <MINNESOTA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 04, 2004 3:12 PM Subject: [MINNESOTA] Birth of Cuthbert Brown > Hi All > > I have a query that perhaps someone could help with. >***************************************** > > Pehaps they met and married in Minneapolis, had a child then came back to > the UK in time for the 1901 census. > > Can anyone suggest a way I can investigate this? > > The 1900 census doesn't seem to have an index on ancestry. > > Yours > > David Hodgson-Brown > > --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. They are buried in Larrk or Laurk or Larek Cemetery? Does this ring a bell to anyone? Take Care, Cherie hillbird@141.com

In 1999, I "found" three of my siblings through Seton. One word of advice: Watch your wallet. I was asked to provide the agency with my income tax returns for the previous three years to determine what fees I would have to pay. And, I was also asked for an "up-front fee." No, I cannot, as the information came from family members and local church records and one family had her birth certificate. Two were listed as father's unknown. I am talking 1900, not now. I have never dealt with any adoptions now or within the last 90 years or with the state of Minnesota.
