A big thank you to all the "listers" who responded to my request. I received some very helpful information. I've belonged to several lists through the years and have always found them to be very helpful. Thanks again.....Carol
My grandfather was adopted in 1895. I am trying to locate his adoption records in an attempt to find out who his real parents were. I am aware that adoption records over 100 years old are public record. Is there anywhere I can search for adoption records. Bob Souther bobsouther@cariboumaine.com
I have just joined this list. I need to know when Minnesota started keeping birth records? Also where would I go to get them? Thank you Evon Sanders ds245@gte.net
Trying to find TIPLER/TIPPLER families living in Minneapolis/St Paul area. Especially Al or F TIPLER born around 1855-1860 or so. Married Mildred SEEMON. Had 3 known children, Georgia, Audrey and Tom Mildred TIPLER died after November 1942. I can't find anyone that I think fits in the 1881 LDS census - can anyone do a lookup in others during this time frame? Thank you. Ellen
It seems to me that I read several posts to this list not long ago regarding adoptions. Various people were looking for information on the adoption information of various ancestors. I must have inadvertently deleted the post that told how to go about getting information. My Ggrandfather was adopted in the 1860s by a family who lived in Scott County. I have been able to trace his adoptive parents and their origins, but I would love to be able to learn about his birth parents or at least what agency or orphanage he might have been placed from. Could someone enlighten me on how to go about this? Thank you, Janie granatee@bellsouth.net

Hi, I've just subscribed to this list. My great-great grandfather lived in Minnesota for a few years around the 1880s. His biography is in the book mentioned above. I am wondering if anyone on the list has, or has access to, this book and would be willing to make a copy of his biography and of his photograph which is also in the book. I would be happy to reimburse for expenses of copying and mailing. I have been able to print a copy of the biography off the internet, but the list owner has made some notations throughout, and I would like a copy of it as it was published. Also, the photo is not available on the internet. My gg-grandfather is listed as follows: Jones, D.D., Rev. Thomas Gryffydd...(Tavalaw). The biography should be on page 232 if the internet information is correct. Hoping someone can help -- Thanks in advance, Carol Simmons
"Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul and Pacific Railroad" My Dad worked for it for years, as did my uncle and grandfather and extended male relatives Susanne I can say that I know the * St. Paul R.R. * St. Louis R.R. * Chicago, Milwaukee and Minneapolis Rail Roads all went through Carver Co prior to 1880. They are marked on the 1880 plat maps for that county
Sorry I made a stupid mistake yesterday. I meant to ask for the names of the railroads that were in Minnesota and not Minneapolis between the approximate years of 1875 to 1910,or where I could find more information about the railroads in this time frame. Thanks. A.T.
Sorry I made a stupid mistake last night when talking about my Grandfather, John August Carlson who was a civil engineer and designed bridges for the railroad. I meant to ask for the names of the railroads that were in the state of Minnesota between the years of 1875 and 1910. Thanks A.T.
The Nathional Register of Historic Places has listed Bandana Square, which was originally built in 1885 as a repair and maintenance shop for the iron horses of the Northern Pacific Railroad. Bandana Square building have been converted into an entertainment, dining and convention facility but they've maintained the cahracter of the old railroad yard. Railroad tracks are still embedded in the floor and pine beam and cupola-shaped ceiling create an interesting atmosphere. Currently, the second floor hosts the Model Railroad Club. I also remember that the Dakota Jazz Bar & Grill used to be located there, but I think that they recently moved to other quarters. I tried going to google.com and typing in "history railroad Minneapolis" and got several thousand hits. Too many to mention them all. A couple that looked really excellent: In 1862, the St. Paul and Pacific Railway laid tracks between St. Paul and St. Anthony, bringing the village's first railroad. This railroad, which would become the Great Northern, crossed the river into Minneapolis at Nicollet Island in 1866. The first all-rail line connecting Minneapolis and Chicago opened in 1867. http://www.mplib.org/history/tr2.asp <- has some beautiful historical photos Minneapolis & St. Louis Iowa Central Chicago & Northwestern Website There are currently over 435 pages to this site. http://eldora.net/lyndon/ Kathy Robert Tucker wrote: > > Sorry I made a stupid mistake last night when talking about my Grandfather, John August Carlson who was a civil engineer and designed bridges for the railroad. I would recommend trying the MN Historical Society - http://www.mnhs.org I went to their PALS cataloge search and put in "railroad" and got back 2583 Matches. http://www.pals.msus.edu/cgi-bin/pals-cgi?palsAction=newSearch&setWeb=MHSCATT I can say that I know the * St. Paul R.R. * St. Louis R.R. * Chicago, Milwaukee and Minneapolis Rail Roads all went through Carver Co prior to 1880. They are marked on the 1880 plat maps for that county. (I might have the railroad names a bit garbled - I have to piece together my plat maps to figure it out.) I have found some more facts about my Grandfather, John August Carlson. Am told he was a civil engieer for a railroad and designed bridges for the railroad. The years would have been approximately 1875 to 1910. Is there any way that I could find out the name of the railroad he worked for,or could someone please tell me which railroads were in Minneapolis at this time. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. Annette Carlson Tucker.
I have started a list for Norwegian Obituaries of Norwegian Immigrants Only, to the USA. Archives are here: <http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/NORWEGIAN-OBITUARIES> If you have any Norwegian Immigrant obituaries you would like to contribute, subscribe here: To subscribe to NORWEGIAN-OBITUARIES-D, send a message to <NORWEGIAN-OBITUARIES-D-request@rootsweb.com> that contains in the body of the message the command subscribe There are NO LOOKUPS from the list right now, ONLY POSTING of Norwegian immigrant obits from people who came to America from Norway. I am doing this for Norman County of Minnesota myself. Hopefully it will help someone in the world searching for their families. My goal in life is to get as much information as I can out there while able. :-)) This should be the goal of all in genealogy world, to HELP others when we can and are able freely. :-) If you know of any others who would like to contribute Norwegian Immigrant Obituaries, let them know how to subscribe and pass on the information to all lists that pertain to Norway. Any questions, write to margit@eot.com Margit

Nikolaus, the below web site is a listing of the cemeteries in Goodhue County. I did not see a Pleasant View Cemetery listed for Goodhue County. What name were you searching? ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/mn/goodhue/cemeteries/goodhue.txt It might be that the cemetery changed its name.. \ -- Regards, Jerry Zimmerman > > Subject: > [MINNESOTA] Pleasant View Cemetery > From: > "Irmgard und Nikolaus Ordemann" <n.ordemann@infocity.de> > Date: > Mon, 19 Jan 2004 12:34:53 +0100 > To: > MINNESOTA-L@rootsweb.com > > > I wonder if SKS could help me: Somebody died in Cannon Falls, > Goodhue,MN.
