    3. Hei Ian, Welcome to the Minnesota List! Just to let you know, on this site, there are 141 with Mother's maiden name CURRAN. <http://people.mnhs.org/dci/> This does not make it any easier for you, unless you know the 3 childrens' names. No Children listed in the 1930 census after being married for 7 years? No other information about the family? If they were born in/after the 1930 census, they would only be at most 73ish. There were ONLY 16 having the last name of Handley (for males). If they had daughters...yes perhaps one of the 141...if deceased. Someone needs to look at the obituaries of Lawrence and Charlotte. This is the prime source. Someone needs to look at the city directories of Minneapolis and trace the family year by year to see if children living at the same address appear in the city directory. The County recorder could have info also; but this particular one is not online. Ron Bestrom

    1. [MINNESOTA] Re: Military companies
    2. military companies: The Citizen soldiers were militia formed in light of the Indian "threat" for the protection of the settlers. Many of the citizen soldiers transferred to the Army during the civil war, but many soldiers spent most of the war years fighting in the Sioux Indian uprising, and had government permission to do so, untill 1864 after most of the Sioux were vanquished. My relatrive was in the Mankato Citizen Soldiers. When he transferred to the Union army in 1864 his prior experience earned him the rank in of Jr. LT, and he was 1st LT upon cessation of the civil war. I rally do not know much about any particular group, just generalities. I would recommend that you write to the Minnesota Hist Library in Mankato to see if they have interlibrary loans so that you can read up on the Citizen Soldiers.. 3. My apology to everyone. I meant to check on my spelling of Oslo,Norway, and not Sweden. I guess I got my facts mixed up. My Grandfather was born in Sweden and have just been told that he came to America via Oslo,Norway between 1866 and 1868. Meant to ask if a lot of Swedish people did this. Please excuse me I did not mean to sound so stupid or sarcastic. Think I must have gone brain dead. Again I apologize. A.T.

    3. Hi Pepper, I'm guessing that you are talking about the Faribault City area in Rice Co. If it's Rice Co., then you would want to write to John Dably for Rice Co. cemetery records. Mr. Dalby spent years walking cemeteries around the Rice and Steele Co. areas and has a very extensive collection of records. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnrice/dalby.htm If it's really Faribault Co., then you want to look at the cemeteries here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnfariba/ You can also search the MN onine death index 1907 - 1996 here: http://people.mnhs.org/dci/Search.cfm Hope that helps, Kathy peppergenealogy@verizonmail.com wrote: > > Hello list, > > I am looking for any information about this family > Abbott Asa b 1842 Maine and died somewhere after 1920 > His wife was Victoria Frances (Franny) Cross, b 11 Dec 1865 in MD.
