    3. > 2. Does anyone have any ideas where else I might check for info on > Michael's whereabouts? Michael, age 15 is listed on familysearch.org's 1880 census records. The name was spelled Soyka on this census. "Marey" 's parents are living with them. I would contact the cemetery/ies where other family members were buried, in case he is also buried there. It sounds as though you've already done the obituary work. > 3. Does anyone have knowledge as to how long the churches generally maintain > their records? and do they turn older records over to the Archdiocese? The Chancery at the Archdiocese of St. Paul has lots of area church records on microfilm. They do not do research, have limited hours and require an appointment and a fee of researchers. I've been there twice - they are fairly busy and do not have time to give advice. Mary mary@mwancestor.com

    1. [MINNESOTA] SOIKA, FABIANSKI, BUCHOLZ, SEPION
    2. Hi Listers, The list has been kinda quiet lately, so I thought I'd post the names again that I'm researching. I'm currently working on my SOIKA and FABIANSKI branches. Joseph Soika, b 1872 married Pauline Fabianski, b 1879. Both were born in the US after their parents families settled in Moundsview Township (modern day city of Mounds View, and New Brighton), leaving Poland in their past. My present mission is to find where the families came from in Poland. I've had little luck locating the information thru the usual means, so I've been trying to locate some early church records where these families may have declared their place of origin in Poland. Specifically, Catherine Soika married Joseph Sepion, and I believe the marriage may have taken place at St. Adalbert's Church in St. Paul. When I was a child, I attended mass there occasionally, and know there to have been Sepion's in the parish, tho I didn't know at the time they were related to me. I've also since learned that Joseph and Pauline Soika belonged to the church at the time my father was married in 1942. In spite of all this, St. Adalbert's tells me they can find no records on any of the names I've given them. This was quite a let down as it appears at first glance that someone didn't try very hard to help me. I'm similarly waiting to hear from St. Casimir's parish in St. Paul for marriage records for Josephine Soika, and Michael Schutta from 1892. I have a marriage certificate in this case to verify the date. These two marriages I'm researching are for the two oldest girls in the Soika family. It is my hope that the church records for one of them will show where their family immigrated from. The eldest of the boys in the family, Michael Soika, has disappeared off the map, and I have no ideas where to search. Michael was born in Poland in 1865, and last appears on the 1875 census at 10 years old. He is not listed on the 1895 census, and I haven't been able to locate any death record for him. From other family obituaries, I've only been able to surmise that Michael probably died before 1941. My questions are these: 1. Is there anyone else out there researching any of these names? 2. Does anyone have any ideas where else I might check for info on Michael's whereabouts? 3. Does anyone have knowledge as to how long the churches generally maintain their records? and do they turn older records over to the Archdiocese? Thanks for sharing any thoughts or ideas. Thanks, Centennial Books- Most generallly the Centennial Books are about the city and the surounding area of families and shops. Most often their is a family histories section where the families themselves write a piece about their forebears and themselves. Many times it is possible to make a connection with ones relatives just by reading the history of that place and times along with bits of family information. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? 3. Well, there's www.parkbooks.com. You can search here by county name: http://www.parkbooks.com/web_store.cgi?page=outlet_frontpage_db.html&&cart_id= You can also download a PDF of their catalog: http://www.parkbooks.com/Html/catalog.pdf I know there's also a lot of good county and ethnic group books at the MN History Center's two stores: http://www.mnhs.org/market/stores/index.html Some are the same as what Park Books has in stock, but you can order online with Park Books.
