Hi Christie, There are several Gabrielsens/Gabrielsons and Godes shown at the Minnesota Historical Society Death Index site: http://people.mnhs.org/dci/Search.cfm. Your Othelia was shown as Othilia Gabrielson with a death date of 20 Mar 1917 in Aitkin, MN - not sure why the discrepancy in death date from yours of 17 Mar 1917. All of the children's names are there under either the "sen" or "son" spelling - but of course, they are probably not all your people. Getting the information from the death certificates would give you more information. There were some Godes in Aitkin county which could indicate that your Othelia had siblings in the area. In some cases, their mother's maiden names are shown, if that is a clue for you in any way (to tie them to Othelia, or perhaps another step back in Norway?). Good luck! Hi again, Christie! There is other information at www.ancestry.com on Othelia's family under the spelling, "Gade". Rather than my printing it out here, it would be best if you look at the site. There is a contact person shown there, also, whom you may or may not be aware of as a probable relative that you could share information with. The History of Minnesota by Christensen is in five volumes, but has a good index. I have some county books, mostly west-central Minnesota. My home county is Lac qui Parle, and I thrive on Chippewa and Yellow Medicine also. Ardell > I have some older history books on the total state of Minnesota, mostly divided mostly into counties. Hi It is always a good idea to check with the college or university in question to see if they have old employment records, yearbooks or staff directories. Macalaster does have a good library (and wonderful librarians!) Try this site, http://www.macalester.edu/library/ If you are outside of Minnesota, try writing a short note to the reference staff via e-mail for ideas about what to search. Read this page about the history of the college, http://www.macalester.edu/academic/catalog/mhra3.html I would suggest asking if the school newspaper from the time he died is microfilmed. That might be a place to find a nice obituary. For the most part early St Paul obits are not really genealogically interesting. The only folks who had long obits were the wealthy and those whose deaths were newsworthy (ie. murder, accidents etc). From the MN Historical Society catalog they have a variety of books on Macalasters' history. http://mnhs.mnpals.net/F/V8BKP3GSFFXBEA2C9NBINA4QLVSNVXIDD1EVF9KGHD875TQP45-01462?func=find-acc&acc_sequence=047773799 Good Luck Anna PS You might try asking the librarian if any of the History Profs have worked on the history of the college. I am sure that someone has written papers and or books about it. --- Original Message ----- From: <RJNOHR@aol.com> To: <MINNESOTA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 07, 2004 4:21 PM Subject: [MINNESOTA] Macalaster college >> Does anyone have any idea of where I could find the early history of >> Macalaster college?
