    1. [MINNESOTA] Looking for Brendmoe family
    2. Dear Minnesota Listers, I am looking for information on the Brendmoe family that settled in Todd County in the Osakis area. Peder Erikson Brendmoe and his wife Johanna came to America in 1871. I am not sure when they got to Minnesota but I have a list of their children and a little more. Peder Erikson born 1836 Meraker, North Trondelag, Norway married Oct. 22, 1859 to Johanna Olsdatter STENDAL b: 1836 Meraker, Norway Children: 1 - Erik Erikson BRENDMOE b: Jan. 20, 1860 Brendmoe farm Meraker Norway Died Feb. 23, 1923 Douglas County Minnesota Married to Mali Halverson born Norway 2 - Brynild Erikson BRENDMOE b: April 30, 1864 Meraker, Norway Died Dec. 27, 1946 West Union, Todd Co., Minnesota Married 1881 to Albert U. Lathrop 3 - Bertha Marie Erikson BRENDMOE b: abt. 1870 Norway 4 - Oline Erikson BRENDMOE b: Nov. 1872 Todd Co., Minnesota Married to Martin Johnson 5 - Carl J. Erikson BRENDMOE b: Jan. 2, 1875 Todd Co., Minnesota Died Nov. 4, 1973 Douglas Co., Minnesota I don't know who Bertha married but I have a picture of her in a wedding dress with her groom. I don't know if Carl ever married since I can't find him anywhere but in 1930 census. So, if anyone would help me with any additional information about the children and their families I would be so grateful. Thanks, Susan Minnesota born living in Utah

    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Armndcvr@cs.com> > I am looking for information on the Brendmoe family > Peder Erikson born 1836 Meraker, North Trondelag, > Norway married Oct. 22, 1859 to Johanna Olsdatter > STENDAL b: 1836 Meraker, Norway > Children: > 1 - Erik Erikson BRENDMOE b: Jan. 20, 1860 > 2 - Brynild Erikson BRENDMOE b: April 30, 1864 > 3 - Bertha Marie Erikson BRENDMOE b: abt. 1870 Norway > 4 - Oline Erikson BRENDMOE b: Nov. 1872 Todd Co., Minnesota > 5 - Carl J. Erikson BRENDMOE b: Jan. 2, 1875 Todd Co., Minnesota First, here they are in Norway in the 1865 Census. http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=f61711 .wc2&variabel=0&postnr=1585&fulle=true&spraak=n They were on the Brendmo (no "e") farm in Merakers Community of the Fylke (county but not county) of Nord-Trøndelag (Not "North"). A large percentage of Norwegian immigrants took their last name from the name of the farm, as is the practice is Norway. Note the use of the Norwegian vowel "ø ", it is not the same as the English "o". Although the children of Peder and Johanna were Erik Pedersen, Brynhild Pedersdatter, they took the last name as is custom in the United States of Eriksen. The Norwegian naming system is the child takes the "last name" being a son or daughter of the first name of the father. Hence, Erik Olsen having a son Peder is "Peder Eriksen", a daughter would be Brynhild Eriksdatter. The Minnesota Death Index shows a: 1. Mali Brendmoe death 1/4/;1927 2. Erick Brendmoe, death 2/23/1929 (you indicated 1923) 3. Stella M. Brendmoe, DOB 4/22/1911, death 6/26/1964 4. Edwin O. Brendmoe, DOB 11/6/1897, death 7/24/1982 5. Carl J. Brendmoe, DOB 1/2/1875, death 11/4/1963 (you wrote 1973) Re: the difference in Date of Deaths above, I don't know if you mistyped or that was your info, or if the Minnesota info is wrong, it is that you have to be EXACT with your information Social Security Death Index shows Edwin, as above, with last residence in Osakis, Douglas, MN. His Social Security Number was 477-40-8692. You can order the SSN application form, which would provide the names of his parents. In the 1930 Census, Carl, was living in West Union, Todd County and living with "Betsey". She was listed as head of household, he as "brother". Betsey was 65 or 63, he was 54. This Betsey is probably Brynild. The last name is difficult to read but is no doubt Lathrop. She is identified as being widowed, he as single. He was a farm laborer. She is identified as coming to the US in 1872. There is a lot of info on Eric; but some difference to your info. Birth 20 Jan 1860 in Sorvagen, Lofoten, Norway, died 23 Feb 1929 in Osakis, Douglas County, MN. He was married to Malie Halverson (Halversdtr) Besen, born 20 Nov 1860, married 29 Jul 1881 in Gordon Twnshp, Todd, MN. They had a daughter Julia Sophia Brendmoe, 2 Feb 1891. She married Peder Danielson, born 29 Apr 1884. She diied 7 Dec 1952 in Long Prairie, Todd Co, MN. A source for most of the information found is a Larry Westerberg lawesterberg@ncs.com. He shows Peder Eriksen (shows as Erick") having a father Erick Pederson, born 1810, death 1878. His father was a Peder E. (probably Eriksen) Klokhaug. I searched for anything coming close to Klokhaug in the 1801 Norway census, but there is nothing coming close. The 1920 Census shows Carl J and Erick Brendmo (no "e"). Erick is 59, wife Mali 59, Halvor son 24, Edwin O son 22, Beret M daughter 24 and Pearl J or I daughter 14. Also living with them is a Johan E Henberg or Hanberg, grandson, age 18. Carl is listed as being 45, a General Foreman, in Farming. He is living with a Martin O ?Madsen? very difficult to read. Martin is 22 listed as his nephew, a farm laborer. Albert Uriah Lathrop died 8/17/1927. The 1920 census has him living with "Brinella", he was 72, she 56 I found a Petra J Johnson, born 5/23/1898, death 11/20/1992 in Hennepin, Minnesota, her mothers maiden name was Brendmoe. An Orville M. Johnson, born 6/10/1925, death 9/19/1978, mothers maiden was Brendmoe. Anyway, that's enough for tonight, it's late and I've an early morning. Ron Bestrom

    3. Hello Everyone: Those of you who are working on your lines back to your 1600s American Ancestors will find the1600s Ancestors Data Base to be of great help. I have recently posted over 1,500 new Ancestors to the Data Base bringing the total to just over 28,000 entries. Also listed are several National Societies who have proven many of these Ancestors. There are a few new respected Reference works that contain thousands of sources All the entries are coded to indicate to which reference work or which National Society has at least one of their proven lines. Several of the National Societies have over 20 different lines from a single Ancestor. When you enter the 1600s Ancestor Data Base be sure to look at the top of each data page for the link that takes you to the "Data Base Information Page" Here you will find the codes and references listed and how to use them. This is MUST reading to understand the Data Base. We are constantly updating the Data Base with additional Ancestors added as time permits. You will find the 1600s Ancestor Data Base at: http://www.firstfamilies.org/db/ For those of you who are AOL members you may have trouble connecting to many pages that may come up with a message such as "Page Does Not Exist" and you can cure that by using your browser feature of Copy and Paste the URL to your browser and then enter from there.
